Our family has been keeping a secret!!

@michaelsobolik and I honored and excited to announce that we’re pursuing another adoption from India.

We chose to hold this news close for a little while, but the time has come to celebrate with our village — and we are SO glad to finally share it with you!

We are just a couple of months away from being in the matching process (awaiting USCIS and India approval). When we adopted Dev, it was a year between matching and travel to India, but it’s been shortened to 6 months, so we’re anticipating (and hoping for) a shorter process this time around.

In 2023, we welcomed our son Dev home from India through international adoption. We have been utterly amazed at how the Lord has worked in our lives over the past 6 years (we began our first adoption process in 2020).

He has been faithful to us in every stage and season.

He’s reminded us again and again of His great love for us — and our son.

He’s given us wisdom and patience, when we were stretched beyond ourselves.

He’s given us more joy than we thought possible

We always tell Dev that adoption means he is loved and chosen. We remind our dear son of the story of how the Lord adopts us into his family, calls us his very own children, and invites us to call him “Father.” We will soon have the privilege of telling this story to our second dear child.

They say “it takes a village” to raise a child, but for adoptive families, it often takes a village to bring them home, too. We can’t do the adoption process alone—we don’t have all the physical, mental, or emotional resources we need.

Hundreds of people were involved, in some capacity, in bringing our son home, and we’re already looking forward with anticipation to how the Lord will write our family’s story for our second adoption.

I've had to make several calls today to continue moving our adoption paperwork forward (doctors, etc).

One women disclosed that she was adopted and warmly congratulated us.

Another women shared that she grew up in foster care and offered her prayers for our little one as she grows.

This was another reminder of just how many people have an experience with adoption / foster care / child-welfare.

26 years ago, Congress granted naturalization to international adoptees of U.S. citizen parents through the Child Citizenship Act.

Due to a loophole, thousands of legally adopted children were excluded due to an arbitrary age cutoff. This technicality has resulted in continuous legal issues for adoptees in American families whose only disqualifying characteristic was their date of birth.

I have introduced legislation with @SenRickScott to grant citizenship to individuals who were legally adopted by U.S. parents but were over 18 when the Child Citizenship Act of 2000 took effect. This new policy would not apply to anyone who has committed serious crimes in our country.

The Citizenship for International Adoptees Act of 2026 is endorsed by a host of adoption advocates and organizations, including: Adoptee Advisory Committee, Adoptees for Children, Adoptees Supporting Adoptee Citizenship, Adoptive Parents for Citizenship, Advisory Committee for Intercounty Adoption, American Academy of Adoptions Attorneys (AAAA), Barker Foundation, Care for Children International, China Children Adoption International (CCAI), Dr. Ron Federici, Holt International, Hope Leads Home, Diane Kunz, Lifeline Children’s Services, National Center for Adoption Law & Policy, National Council for Adoption (NCFA), Pono Roots, and Mission to Promote Adoption in Korea (MPAK).

Michael Sobolik, a senior fellow at the right-leaning @HudsonInstitute think tank and a former aide to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) expressed concerns in an interview that those priorities as well as the broader geopolitical dance with China are defanging the Uyghur ban.

It “only really works if the upstream decisions are already made, and if we’re comfortable having a fundamentally competitive posture toward the Chinese Communist Party,” said Sobolik. “The administration has been skittish about angering China,” but “If we tell ourselves that any little tiny thing we do to counter China, they’re just going to restrict critical mineral flow again, then we can’t do anything.”
