_At Chennai Airport, random baggage re-scanning and examination is undertaken as part of enhanced surveillance measures in view of recent smuggling attempts. Passenger identity is not visible during the stage of baggage selection._
_In the present instance cited by @PrawinGaneshan, the baggage of the passenger got selected on random basis and the passenger was let go by the officers of AIU when no prohibited items were detected._
_As part of the overall heightened surveillance, the officers at the Green Channel also maintain a vigil on sensitive flights. In this case, the passenger was asked at the Green Channel to get the baggage re-examined but on being informed that it has already been examined, the pax was allowed to proceed through the green channel without examination and after taking a voluntary declaration about the contents, value and dutiability of the goods in his possession. Similarly, on the day of this incident around 46 bags of other passengers which had earlier been scanned by AIU were taken for a rescan by the officers at Green Channel and a proper record of the same is being maintained._
_The officers remained courteous and professional throughout their interaction which has also been captured in the Body Worn Camera of the batch officer at the Green Channel._
_It is also further mentioned that no alert has been placed on the passenger’s passport by the Customs authorities.

In response to serious and false allegations made by @PrawinGaneshan regarding Bill of Entry No. 3837029 dated 12.08.2025, we categorically place the following facts on record. This importer has an established pattern of making unsubstantiated allegations of corruption and bribery on this platform, only to delete such posts once factual rebuttals are provided by this department.

The documented facts are as follows: During examination, goods declared under CTH 90191010 were found to be misclassified and correctly classifiable under CTH 90191020. The importer accepted this reclassification on 01.09.2025, confirming the misclassification. Physical examination revealed eight boxes containing USB charging cables that were completely undeclared in the Bill of Entry, commercial invoice, and packing list - a clear violation of Section 111 of the Customs Act, 1962. The imported goods contain built-in rechargeable batteries, making EPR registration from Central Pollution Control Board mandatory under Rule 13 of Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022. Despite repeated queries on 29.08.2025, during personal hearing on 08.09.2025, and again on 29.09.2025, no EPR certificate was provided. Instead, the importer submitted wrong documentation (E-waste undertaking) and made legally untenable claims of MSME exemption, finished product exemption, and low battery capacity exemption - none of which exist under the Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022.

The allegations of harassment and non-cooperation are demonstrably false. The importer was granted personal hearing on 08.09.2025 in full accordance with principles of natural justice. Bonding permission under Section 49 of Customs Act was granted on 11.09.2025 specifically to help the importer avoid demurrage charges during adjudication. Postponement was accommodated on 19.09.2025 when the importer requested additional time. At no stage was any payment or bribe demanded - all queries pertained strictly to mandatory statutory compliance under Battery Waste Management Rules 2022, BIS Act 2016, Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules 2011, and Customs Act 1962.

Furthermore, during pendency of adjudication proceedings on this Bill of Entry, the same importer filed identical goods through a related entity (wife's company) on 12.09.2025 with the same compliance gaps, demonstrating systematic evasion rather than inadvertent error. During an official meeting on 30.09.2025, the importer attempted to intimidate senior officers through threats of media exposure and self-harm when informed that due process must be followed. This conduct has been formally documented and reported.

The importer's social media posts reveal a calculated pattern: allegations of corruption when facing legitimate scrutiny, followed deletion of his thread when facts of violation by importer are placed on record. This selective narrative is a deliberate tactic to pressure officials into releasing cargo without following due process. We categorically state that every action taken was legally mandated, procedurally proper, and based on documented violations discovered during examination.

Chennai Customs will not be deterred by false allegations from performing its statutory duties. We remain committed to lawful, transparent, and professional conduct while enforcing regulations designed to protect public health, consumer safety, and environmental standards.@cbic_india

A meeting on Cost Recovery Charges and Gate Automation Process was held under the Chairmanship of Member (Customs), CBIC at Custom House Chennai on 22.08.2025. The meeting was attended by Sri.A.R.S.Kumar, Pr Chief Commissioner, Chennai, Sri.Vimal Kumar Srivastava, Chief Commissioner, Nhava Sheva, Sri.Pranesh Pathak, Chief Commissioner, Ahmadabad, Sri.Ashish Chnadan, Chief Commissioner, Bangalore Sri.Valte Vungzamuan, PrDG, DGHRD, Sri.Manish Mohan Govil, Principal Commissioner, Directorate of Logistics, Sri.Anupam Prakah, JS Customs, Sri.Atul Singh, ADC, Customs Policy Wing. During the brainstorming session, Office Bearers of National Association for Container Freight Stations also made a presentation on the issue of seamless integration of movement of import/export cargo and related issues. The participants had a fruitful discussion on reorganization of cost recovery charges as well as ways to ease movement of export/import cargo by integration of IT systems of various stakeholders.@cbic_india

With reference to your tweet, the issue was examined by the office and it is noticed that the said importer had filed 17 bills of entry for various kinds of scrap like bushelling scrap, SS scrap, LMS. They have not filed any bill of entry for import of CRGO Coils. In case you have any further information, the same may be shared for further action.

Chennai Customs celebrated the 79th Independence Day with great enthusiasm and patriotic spirit. Shri A.R.S. Kumar, Principal Chief Commissioner, hoisted the national flag and inspected the guard of honour presented by the officers of the Department.
Addressing the gathering, which included all Principal Commissioners, Commissioners, and other officials, Shri A.R.S. Kumar paid tribute to the invaluable sacrifices made by leaders from Tamil Nadu in India’s struggle for independence. Enquiry revealed that the said BE was filed on 28.7.25 with description Galvanized Ceiling Grid claiming benefit of FTA notification 50/2018 Cus. To ascertain the composition of the goods and thereby applicability of benefit of notification a query was raised within 4 minutes. As the reply to the query filed on 01.08.25 at 1900 hrs did not answer the query particularly with regard to the composition, FIRST CHECK was ordered by the AO. Goods are yet to be presented for examination. You are requested to present the goods for examination immediately so that on receipt of examination report assessment of goods would be completed. @cbic_india
