“You may not think about it often but the No. 1 thing that goes wasted in the entire universe is potential. The ability to travel that road less traveled on, no, the road not yet made, paving your own way through this world. The ability to do the impossible. We are only allowed to unlock this potential once we allow ourselves to dream. Dreams save us, they lift us up and show us what the world could be, rather than the one that we live in now. And the greatest thing that we can do as Wolverines to achieve those dreams is to never give up. To never quit, no matter what the odds look like or how impossible you think your goals are,” Woodstock High School Salutatorian Hudson Shakar said in his graduation remarks. Creekview High School teacher Scott Martin, the school’s choral director, made his Carnegie Hall conducting debut for performances by the Cherokee Chorale community chorus, a CCSD Partner. Creekview HS chorus students joined the Chorale for the performance of Elaine Hagenberg’s “Illuminare,” which included alumnae from all six CCSD high schools, and Creekland Middle School teacher Laura B. “Thank you to my teachers for constantly challenging me and helping me discover what I am truly capable of … Year after year, they have inspired us, believed in us, and fueled our passion for learning, something I am forever grateful for. Without your guidance, all of our futures would look very different,” Sequoyah High School Salutatorian Taylor Bell shared in her graduation remarks. “While today is a celebration of the past, I think of it as the start of the future, and in the future, I challenge each of you to see the present the way you see your past: appreciate the small moments that break up the monotony of daily life, and even that monotony itself ... because before you know it, your chance will be gone.” Building leaders starts in CCSD with the investment by our teachers, School Board, and community into our students’ success. “As cliche as it is, every single one of us here tonight, whether you are here as a graduate, teacher, volunteer or spectator has potential, but it is entirely up to you what you do with that potential. What I will leave you with is this: what is it that you truly want for your life, community, or the world, what steps do you need to take, and what changes do you need to make within yourself. As the great Reece Bobby once said, ‘you don’t drive with your eyes, you drive with your heart,” River Ridge High School Salutatorian Olivia Kennison said in her graduation remarks. "You are not just sitting here as students who completed coursework. You are sitting here as graduates who proved something important about yourselves. You proved that when things become difficult, you had the strength and determination to finish."
Summer School Administrator Adam Johnson congratulated CCSD's summer graduates tonight as 15 members of the class celebrated with a commencement ceremony, attended by friends, family and members of the School Board and CCSD leadership team.
Students entered the auditorium to “Pomp and Circumstance” while wearing their high school’s graduation caps and gowns, listened to inspirational remarks from Mr. Johnson, and then were congratulated by School Board Chair Janet Read Welch, Vice Chair Patsy Jordan and School Board member Kelly Poole, along with Superintendent Mary Elizabeth Davis and Chief School Leadership and Operations Office Dr. Debra Murdock as Mr. Johnson handed out their diplomas.

“Since kindergarten, our teachers have told us to make the world a better place. And while everything else around us is changing, that has stayed the same. The world is changing as we receive it from our predecessors, and it is up to us what those changes are. So, as we enter adulthood, the question is not ‘who will you be?’ But rather, ‘who are you now?’ And, ‘how will you change the world?’” Etowah High School Salutatorian Avery Grace Cheatham shared in her graduation remarks. The Lady Warriors got in a summer workout at their new home this morning at Cherokee High School! It’s a busy summer as the relocation to the new campus continues. Thank you to the School Board and the community for their support of the Education SPLOST that made this new school possible. Note: Due to the complexity of the transition to the new campus and the planned sale of the current campus, use by outside groups and organizations at both CHS campuses, including athletic facilities, has been paused as of June 1. #ccsdelevatetheexcellence
“But maybe we don't need to live like it's our last. Maybe we just need to remember how to begin again. Because like any rough sketch, the future doesn't have to look complete to have potential. And for the first time in a long time, we get to decide what comes next. So when we find ourselves starting over again, stepping into new experiences, I hope we meet these moments the same way we once did when we were younger: open, curious, a little unsure, and still willing to step forward anyway,” Cherokee High School Salutatorian Gaole “Grace” Dai shared in her graduation remarks. Building leaders starts in CCSD with the investment by our teachers, School Board, and community into our students’ success.
