A very welcome decision by @hilarybennmp, rejecting the use of the Stormont Brake to stop an improved EU chemical safety law applying to Northern Ireland.
#EDCs can now be more easily identified and banned in NI 🙌
Now we need this to apply to the rest of the UK!
🚨BREAKING 🚨
ENDS Report's award-winning investigative reporter and news editor @neill_pippa talks to @Channel4News about how she exposed the 'forever chemical' problem at Bentham, the UK's most known PFAS-polluted town📽️
A counter argument to the one sided hysteria over the proposed changes to inheritance tax relief on inherited agricultural land. Farmers have hoarded land for too long. Inheritance tax will bring new life to rural Britains https://t.co/DMA8enIn8j
BREAKING! MP @munirawilson has just introduced a PFAS forever chemical bill that would set out legal limits for toxic PFAS in water & ramp up regulation on their production. We've been falling so far behind the EU and US. It's time to catch up!
Over 50 leading scientists call on the UK Government to take an ambitious approach to regulating #PFAS - the #foreverchemicals
CHEM Trust welcomes this crucial contribution, every year of delay in restricting their use adds to the costly pollution burden.

BREAKING: The number of sites polluted with toxic PFAS is on the rise. There are now four being investigated (out of potentially thousands) and the Environment Agency is freaking out about the cost of investigation, let alone clean-up... 1/

BREAKING: Residents around a chemicals plant have been told to wash and peel homegrown vegetables before eating while an investigation into potential soil contamination with a cancer-causing chemical PFOA gets under way 1/

IN ONE WEEK!
Since Brexit, the UK has not restricted a single harmful chemical & some safety rules have been weakened. Labour has said it wants to rest relations with the EU. What benefits could this bring for our shared environment, as well as trade & security?
Diplomacy as normal, if only we remembered what normal was like. @HeleneBismarck on Starmer's visit to Germany. One point I've made in a couple of interviews - with a new Commission forming the UK can't yet engage in detail with Brussels anyway. https://t.co/bhuYwxqiLg
Hundreds of toxic chemicals found in rivers, Environment Agency samples taken this year reveal
“From conception we’re all being exposed to a cocktail of synthetic toxins... the impact of the mixtures is totally unknown… and it’s inescapable.”1/2

❓ Can we transition to a green economy and deal with the PFAS pollution crisis?
🎉 We looked into this and found good news - innovative companies are creating PFAS-free alternatives!

'The majority of the top 10 constituencies for poor environmental health are located in the north of England'
Skipton & Ripon which features in this list, is home to Bentham, the town which I recently exposed to be the most PFAS polluted place in the UK

Very excited to announce the launch of
THE WATERSHED POLLUTION MAP!
River health, landfills, sewage, road run-off, intensive farming, big industry, forever chemicals, abandoned mines, bathing waters, flood risk, protected areas and so much more... 🧵

Another important investigation by @TheENDSReport - on tetraethyl lead emissions from small aircraft, affecting around 370k households
While the EU and US have set phase-out dates, the UK has said regulatory pressure not needed

Do you care about the air you breathe? 🚨
Dr Ashley Mills estimates that nearly 400,000 households in the UK are at risk of being exposed to lead fumes from light aircraft.
This statistic shocked me when I first found out about it… if it shocks you then make sure to tune in⬇️
Shadow chancellor @RachelReevesMP has announced that a Labour government would seek deeper links with the EU, using the chemicals industry as a prime example.
@ruthmchambers, senior fellow, says: "We welcome this common sense on chemicals..."

Great to hear @RachelReevesMP raise closer alignment with the EU on chemical regulation 👏🏼

No one voted Leave to have less protection from harmful chemicals. But that's what's happened: https://t.co/9WnLT0jZn9
Aligning with the EU on chemicals regulations is v welcome news for our health and environment
Here we see @RachelReevesMP freelancing beyond her manifesto already on EU issues. The Labour manifesto says nothing about aligning chemicals rules - indeed they are a key component of the single market they claim they do not want to rejoin.
It's a silly argument even in its own terms. Except for free movement, people didn't vote against any single subset of single market rules - they voted against having the rules set in Brussels. Labour seem to be quite happy with that.
Our new chemicals study found every participant had "forever chemicals" & hormone-disrupting substances in their bodies.
While other places take toxic substances off the shelves, the UK is falling behind on chemicals regulation. 🧵

Great to delve into what better regulation for the environment could look like - so critical.
Absolute pleasure sharing a panel with @Chlexander from Chem Trust, @KierraBox for FOE, and @EleanorGodwin7 for Violation tracker.
Thanks for having me @Unchecked_UK and @VT__UK
