I think we have to understand that the people of Iran live with a residual memory that exceeds our goldfish-length Western memory.

For them, this story dates back to at least 1953 and Mossadegh. Followed by the terror of the Shah and then 47 years of punishing sanctions. I doubt they are going to forgive all that and move on for a few ones and zeros on hard disks representing US fiat bucks.
