Even though it is unconventional to be married by a couple, we knew that Lyn and Norman together were their own being larger than the sum of their parts. We wanted their marriage to marry us. After Kimbal’s vows, Norman closed his script, and said “Well, there’s nothing more to say—We’re done here.” And Lyn said, “Norman! What are you talking about? We’re not done- We have a whole other section, we have to do the “I do’s and the pronouncements.” He said “Lyn, there’s nothing we can say that can beat that!” Of course, as usual Lyn won the argument, and they finished the ceremony.

When Norman was nearly 100 years old after three days of a longevity conference @CNN #LifeItself where he sat front row listening astutely to every speaker, he was asked on stage what he thought about all the talks. He reflected that there was in fact an important secret to a long and thriving life, but it lay not in finding the perfect diet, nor pills, transfusions, or genetic therapies. He told us that longevity lies in laughter. The joy we bring one another is the medicine my friends. Norman, what a honor it has been to get to love you and learn from you. Norman, 101 years wasn’t nearly enough.
