🚧Annual line painting underway in Pickering🚧

Road markings are an important road safety feature – they define lanes, guide traffic, and help motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians understand where they can and cannot travel. 🛣️✅

If you see traffic-marking paint equipment while on the road, please exercise caution, slow down, and keep a safe distance from crews and follow-up vehicles. ⚠️

What you need to know⬇️

🗓️You may see Region of Durham’s crews or the City’s contractor out on the roads (weekdays and occasional weekends/nights), from now until November.

🖌️Line painting is a moving operation that travels at reduced speeds to ensure road markings are applied properly. Follow-up trucks travel behind the trucks applying paint to provide a safety buffer and allow freshly applied paint time to dry.

🚨Freshly painted traffic symbols are marked with cones and/or barriers to advise drivers to avoid them until the markings are safe to drive over.

Please keep a safe distance from follow-up trucks and avoid driving over freshly painted markings. Wet paint can cause damage to your vehicle and compromise the quality of the new markings.

Be Prepared: Flood Outlook in effect until September 3, 2026 at 5:00pm❗

TRCA is advising of an increased potential for flooding within its river systems due to the risk of severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall over a short period. These conditions could result in rapidly rising water levels and localized flooding.

The Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) is carrying out rehabilitation and emergency repair work in the Brock Road and Highway 401 area.

Beginning the weekend of August 21, a series of additional weekend lane closures is planned on Brock Road to accelerate critical emergency bridge repairs.During these closures, one lane will remain open in each direction.

Currently, the eastbound Highway 401 on-ramp at Brock Road is closed and expected to reopen in late fall 2026. The nearest eastbound Highway 401 access points are at Whites Road in Pickering and Westney Road in Ajax.

City-wide burn ban in effect for Pickering🔥

Due to prolonged high temperatures and to support the ongoing safety of our community, the City has implemented a burn ban, effective immediately and until further notice.

What does this mean?🔽

🚫All agricultural burn permits are suspended until the ban is lifted.

✅Propane and natural gas BBQs are allowed for cooking. They must only be used on non-combustible surfaces and kept safely away from structures and dry vegetation. Pickering Fire Services urges residents to refrain from non-essential outdoor cooking using charcoal or woodfired appliances due to the elevated risk.

🚫Chimineas, bonfires, and wood-burning appliances remain prohibited in Pickering. Propane or natural gas fire bowls and fire tables should not be used while the burn ban is in effect.

📍Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex

The joint exercise, hosted by the City and managed by Regional Emergency Social Services, will focus on the activation, operation, and demobilization of a municipal evacuation centre.

Throughout the day, community members may notice MOCK emergency activities taking place as part of the scheduled training exercise.

These exercises allow the City and its regional partners to🔽

✅test critical systems
✅strengthen coordination
✅build a safer, more resilient, and well-prepared community
