During his interview with Andy Cohen, Jacob Tierney talked about the casting process for Ilya, revealing that they auditioned actors from all over Europe, only for Connor Storrie from West Texas to turn out to be the perfect Ilya!

“Andy: Did you think about casting a Russian actor?

Jacob: oh, yeah, I mean, what we actually thought about was… And we did look around through the diaspora of Ukrainian actors, especially who have, you know, who are kind of… A lot of that talent has spread around Europe, there's people we had, we had casting out of Berlin, out of Prague, out of London, out of the places we thought we would find the most amount of Slavic actors, or actors of Slavic heritage.

I'll tell you, I did not expect to find Ilya in West Texas.”

Jacob Tierney talks to @Andy Cohen about the @NHL's failure to “meet the moment” and deal with their “toxic culture”:

Andy: Isn't it incredible the level of interest in the NHL that has come about from this show? And I will say, I'm happy that the NHL has met the moment and capitalized on it.

Jacob: Have they?

Andy: Have they not?

Jacob: [scoffs] No!... No, they've just hired four rapists to play for them. The NHL is not meeting the moment… The NHL has— I think the NHL has a lot of ongoing work to do.

Andy: Well, y'all have handed the NHL a gift.

Jacob: Yeah, I agree, and it is up to the NHL. It is up to the NHL to actually convince anybody that this is a safe space for people. Because every day they want to prove that it's not.

Andy: Every day they DO prove that that it's not.

Jacob: They are not, they are NOT doing what they should be doing to make their sport an inclusive place.

Andy: And what should they be doing?

Jacob: They really need to deal with their own toxic culture. And they're not, you know? Demonstrably, one team after another proving.

Jacob Tierney on what makes a scene essential to Heated Rivalry:

"Essential scenes are Shane and Ilya; everything else is allowed to be off to the side."

"There’s a ruthlessness to the storytelling, a focus that’s not very TV, it’s more like a movie about one relationship."

"If it’s about Shane and Ilya, it moves the story forward because the story is the way they feel about each other."
