A @classicstoday review prompted me to listen again to this 2018 Sudbin/Oramo/BBC Rachmaninoff 2nd on @BIS_records. "These are elegant, intelligent performances from a soloist who’s clearly thought about the music and knows how to get what he wants out of it," said Dave Hurwitz.
Ok, I think this will be my new Beethoven 5th symphony. That 4th movement IS very exciting, indeed.
Got this from a Dave Hurwitz video. Thanks, @classicstoday
@SingaporeSymph conducted by Darrell Ang & Joshua Tan presents a compelling programme that explores the rich and often unexpected dialogue between film and concert music. Featuring works by John Williams, Bernard Herrmann, and Hugo Friedhofer. Coming July 24th.
Just got the recent re-release of the complete symphonies of Rued Langgaard. It’s not SACD & is very affordable. Salute to DACAPO. I just started the box but this music is really good. Saw online @classicstoday review. Suggest video review of each symphony!
RUED MANIA
RIP.
Günter Pichler, primarius of the Alban Berg Quartet, died in a car crash at the spritely age of 85.
He could be famously difficult and was exacting, but by those who withstood this, he was beloved or at least admired. He helped set new standards for string quartet playing.
A special message from Semyon Bychkov to all those who have purchased the earlier symphonies of his Mahler cycle with the Czech Philharmonic:
"My warmest thanks to those who have shared kind messages about the Mahler recordings... 1/3
