Climate change, driven by the burning of fossil fuels, is impacting sports around the world. We must urgently cut climate pollution to protect the things we love.

Vale Jon Kudelka ❤️
An extremely talented cartoonist and author who tirelessly campaigned for action on climate change.
The Climate Council sends its condolences to Jon's loved ones.
We know what’s making them worse - climate pollution from burning coal, oil and gas. We must urgently slash climate pollution to protect Australians from worsening heatwaves, and their deadly impacts.
In January we experienced record-breaking heatwaves, where people sweltered through many consecutive days above 45°C.
Heatwaves in Australia are more lethal than bushfires, cyclones, floods and storms combined.
The good news is, batteries are transforming Australia's energy market, providing cheaper renewable power during peak periods of demand to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.
Power prices in Australia can fluctuate wildly – and despite low-cost renewables flooding our grid, expensive fossil fuels are still driving up power prices.

We’ve been there - watching disasters unfold on the news, doomscrolling late into the night, feeling anxious that the progress we’re making isn’t happening fast enough ⏩⏩⏩
Climate Councillor Joel Gilmore says data centres powered by renewables can bring opportunities for regional Australia "... you're also then getting investment in renewables, which brings with it local power, but also all the community benefit sharing."

"We know Australians have long had an appetite for energy independence to drive down bills, and as a result have been adopting solar and battery technology at a record pace for the last several years," said Jackie Trad, the Clean Energy Council's CEO.
Let's keep at it! 🥳
Extreme Heat Awareness Day is a reminder that we’re all feeling the heat – but not equally. Extreme heat is amplifying inequality and pushing vulnerable communities to the brink.
We must urgently cut climate pollution to address rapid global heating, to keep everyone safer.
Today’s fires are “fundamentally different to what I saw in 1971 when I fought my first big fire," says Greg Mullins AO, ASFM.
Last week, we were joined by Greg - a former fire chief, Emergency Leaders for Climate Action founder & Climate Councillor - for a webinar on fire risk.
As a firefighter with more than 50 years of experience, Greg is concerned about how climate pollution from coal, oil and gas is turbocharging fire weather conditions, becoming increasingly dangerous for emergency services and placing more Australians at risk.
