The News Minute spoke to around 20 journalists who covered the protests, several of them from digital media organisations. The accounts reveal how journalists on the ground were subjected to detention, physical assault, intimidation and the seizure or destruction of their equipment as they reported on the protests.

On 2.10.26 Cobrapost published a statement explaining why its stories on Deepak Malik, Manoj Agarwal and Ravinder Singh Sangwan had been removed from its platforms. That statement referred to the ex parte injunction orders pursuant to which the stories were taken down and included the relevant dates and particulars of courts which had passed the orders.
Cobrapost wishes to state clearly that these verifiable particulars were included only to inform our readers, accurately and transparently, why the stories were no longer available and to disaffirm any insinuations that Cobrapost had voluntarily taken them down on account of any inducement or coercion. The statement was not intended, and should not be read, to cast any aspersion on the Ld. Presiding Officers, or to suggest that they, or the courts of India, are indifferent to freedom of speech or of the press.
Cobrapost holds the Indian judiciary in the highest regard. It is the courts that have long protected the freedom of the press, and it is to the courts that we have turned to contest these orders, through the remedies available to us in law. We will continue to abide by all orders in force while those proceedings take their course.
Cobrapost's stories on Deepak Malik, Manoj Agarwal and Ravinder Singh Sangwan were taken down only because of ex parte injunctions passed without hearing Cobrapost:
• Rohtak, 8 July 2026: Rakesh Kadian, Ld. Civil Judge (Sr. Div.)
• Kanpur Nagar, 18 July 2026: Devvrat Dev Kumar, Ld. Addl. Civil Judge (Sr. Div.)
• Rohtak, 28 September 2026: Mohommad Sageer, Ld. Addl. Civil Judge (Sr. Div.)
We have challenged these orders in court as free speech and journalism should not be silenced by ex parte injunctions.

Mouth Cancer Kills More Indian Men Than Any Other Cancer. Gutkha Is Why.
Gutkha has been banned under India's food safety law since 2011. It's still on every counter. Don't let the gutkha industry profit from Indian lives.
