Cochin Port Authority celebrated the 80th Independence Day on 15 August 2026 with patriotic fervour at the lawns of the Administrative Building of Cochin Port Authority. Dr. M. Angamuthu, IAS, Chairperson, Cochin Port Authority, hoisted the National Flag and received the Guard of Honour presented by the CISF contingent.
Addressing the gathering, Chairperson stated that Cochin Port, with nearly 98 years of service, has continued to grow and achieve new milestones. The Chairperson complimented the entire Cochin Port family for achieving the highest-ever cargo volume of 38.06 MMT and crossing the ₹1,000 crore mark in financial turnover, describing the achievement as a true collective effort and appreciating the hard work and contribution of all employees and stakeholders. Looking ahead, the Port has set an ambitious target of crossing 40 MMT of cargo this year and reaching 50 MMT or more within the next four to five years, along with a financial benchmark of ₹1,500–₹2,000 crore. The development of Cochin Port will be pursued in harmony with the aspirations of the people of Kochi, ensuring that the Port, the city and the State grow and benefit together.

Adv. Parvathi Sanjay, eminent legal practitioner at the High Court of Kerala, led an awareness session on the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH Act), for the employees of Cochin Port Authority.

The session focused on promoting a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace by enhancing employees' awareness of their rights and responsibilities.

Cochin Port Authority had the privilege of welcoming 21 IPS Probationers as part of their Basic Course Training to gain insights into the port sector and its operations.

A team of 24 Sub Officer Trainees from the National Fire Service College, Nagpur visited Cochin Port Authority as part of their industrial training programme.
The trainees were addressed by Capt. Bhaskar Krishnan Kunji, Dock Master, Cochin Port Authority. Shri Subrahmanian K, Chief Fire Officer, Cochin Port Authority, lead an interactive session on 'Fire Safety Measures at the Port', highlighting the port's fire prevention and emergency response mechanisms.
Coordinated by the Fire Division of Cochin Port Authority, the programme included a visit to the ship and tanker berths, as well as the Port Fire Station, providing the trainees with practical exposure to the port's fire-fighting infrastructure and emergency response systems.
Shri Sujith Kumar, Regional Fire Officer, Ernakulam, along with Station Officers from Kerala Fire and Rescue Services, also participated in the programme.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Water Resources held an official meeting at Kochi to discuss "Examination of Pollution, Salinity Intrusion, Sedimentation and Industrial Discharge Arising from Shipbuilding/Port Activities in and around Cochin Port and their Impact on Marine Ecology, Biodiversity and Water Sustainability." Committee Chairperson and Lok Sabha MP Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy, along with the Members of Parliament, held discussions with Dr. M. Angamuthu, IAS, Chairperson, Cochin Port Authority, and senior officials.

Dr. M. Angamuthu, IAS, assumed additional charge as Chairperson of Cochin Port Authority.
A 2002-batch IAS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, he is currently serving as Chairperson of Mumbai Port Authority. He has previously served as Chairperson of Visakhapatnam Port Authority and has been serving as Chairperson of Dredging Corporation of India Ltd. since 2023.

The rejuvenating yoga session was led by Dr. Ashwathi V. Nair, Yoga Wellness Instructor, highlighting the role of yoga in promoting lifelong health, vitality, and well-being.
