Meet Arianna Smith-Forté and Joie Whitmon, C’2027 and CodeHouse Scholars, who are spending their summer as Software Engineering Interns at Meta! Arianna is working for the AI4T team, which handles the AI models that translate languages for all of Meta’s apps and products. She is supporting the team by fine tuning models that help predict the quality of translation

Joie is working on the Central Youth – Teen and Family Experiences team, which builds the infrastructure behind parental supervision on Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, and Threads. She is completing a major data migration that strengthens how those protections work and building an AI-powered automation pipeline that helps her team ship safer and faster. #CodeHouseScholars #SpelmanCollege #HBCU #WomenInSTEM #BlackInTech

Meet Journei Ferguson, C'2026, a computer science graduate and Fulbright U.S. Student Program recipient, who spent her summer in Nairobi, Kenya, teaching middle and high school students their first lines of code. Ferguson is a Cohort 2 CodeHouse Scholar, Obama-Chesky Voyager Scholar, TMCF Scholar, and has interned with companies like Microsoft, McKinsey, and the Department of Defense.
"Spelman and CodeHouse have given me so much confidence and audacity," Journei says. “Be confident,” she says. “Kenya only had two spots (for Fulbright), but I truly believed I was going to get it, so I applied.
