Have you checked out @AMTAteachers new podcast series yet? https://t.co/IbLG1stKku is an interview I did on collaborative sense-making. The site also has interviews with David Hestenes, @ldukerich, @brendaroyce and @eposthuma.
Hey Modelers... AMTA wants to know what social media you are using other than Twitter? What are you doing to self-promote workshops, podcasts, modules, etc...?
Hey @AMTAteachers, #BeTheGood ...watch this 1 minute video and then retweet it and encourage your followers to do the same ASAP, and be sure to mention @AMTAteachers. The first 10,000 retweets before 9 PM EST this evening will earn a $10 donation for their charity from @benevity
@S_M_Kelly...thanks for the 'effective meeting practices' link...I'm familiar with APS and AAPT resources. AMTA is not well-funded enough yet to have meetings like this but the biennial members retreats we have with around 100 members attending allows for most of these practices.
@jasonleeolson@lucialiljegren@AMTAteachers I suggest to you consider rejoining AMTA, Jason, if you feel strongly about this issue, and work to bring about change from the inside...perhaps also acquaint yourself with the work we do and how we manage it, despite @AMTAteachers extremely modest budget.
@jasonleeolson@lucialiljegren@AMTAteachers@ColleenMagowan (Jason, note the spelling of my last name: mEgowan, not mAgowan)...I am technically not "responsible" any more. I retired from the AMTA XO position months ago but as Senior Fellow and an engaged AMTA member I feel obligated & empowered by my community to be responsive and...(1/2)
@jasonleeolson@AMTAteachers The AMTA newsletter is info that is intended for AMTA members. That's who we need to reach out to. The most efficient way to reach current members is by direct messaging them through the members' website. That's where we should start.
@jasonleeolson@AMTAteachers You misunderstand. I'm not being defensive about issues of representation. I'm defending the newsletter that Erica produced, that she asked for MANY articles for and got no response. In response to today's conversation I have arranged to host a webinar for @AMTAteachers on this.
AMTA is a grassroots organization--it was founded by Modelers. It is teacher driven and teacher powered. It does amazing work on a shoestring, coordinating workshops for over 1000 teachers every summer, providing a networked community for thousands of members and former members.
@jasonleeolson@AMTAteachers I agree with you, and we do make an effort to :::seek::: perspectives. But as a practical matter, when they are not forthcoming what should we do? Stop publishing a newsletter? We're talking about a "news" letter-a way for AMTA to get info about programs to members, not an op ed.
@kellyoshea@AMTAteachers Pass the word: I will host an @AMTAteachers open forum 4 PM PDT April 5th on equity and diversity in AMTA the Modeling teacher community and Modeling classrooms. Check the members website for a registration link--it may not be up there till Monday.
@kellyoshea@AMTAteachers I agree. And I hope that members who feel strongly about this will step up and contribute to the conversation. In fact let's see if we can jumpstart the conversation. I will see if I can schedule a @AMTAteachers webinar next month on this very topic.
@kellyoshea I'll stop being committed to learning when I am dead. Sorry you found my responses lacking today. I do the best I can with what I have. Social media has never been my strong suit...one reason it was important for me to make way for leadership closer to the median age of members.
@kellyoshea I have done research written about equity actually, but from the perspective of teaching and learning. I'd be happy to share my article with you if you are interested. In general Modeling classrooms are more equitable than most because of the structure of classroom discourse.
