As the summer moves on, I can't stop thinking about the unforgettable 2025–2026 school year I had the incredible privilege of experiencing. From August through May, I made so many core memories while calling 191 sporting events across 12 different sports.

What made the year so special wasn't just the games themselves, but the people I had the opportunity to share them with. To quote Clarence from It's a Wonderful Life, "Each man's life touches so many other lives."

There were so many people who touched my life throughout the school year, and I want to say thank you to everyone who helped make it one I will always remember!

I hope everyone enjoys the rest of the summer with family and friends.

After taking a few months off due to my play-by-play schedule, Voices in the Game is back with an all-new episode featuring @OBIE_IUP, Director of Strategic Communications and Ideation for @IUPCrimsonHawk!

In this episode, Jacob discusses what it's like to serve as a sports information director for one of the premier NCAA Division II athletic departments in the United States. He shares an inside look at the day-to-day responsibilities of promoting and covering IUP Athletics, a program that enjoyed tremendous success during the 2025–26 academic year, highlighted by @IUP_WBB's run to the NCAA Division II National Championship Game.

He also discusses IUP's impact on the sports world, particularly through the accomplishments of Indiana football coach Curt Cignetti, who was at IUP from 2011 to 2016, and longtime play-by-play announcer Jack Benedict.

Beyond his work in athletic communications, Jacob shares his journey growing up around sports, how he broke into the industry, and one of his biggest passions: following the Pittsburgh Pirates.

On Thursday, I witnessed probably the craziest baseball game I have ever called.

It was the WPIAL 5A Semifinal matchup between Montour and Upper St. Clair. Upper St. Clair led 10-1 heading into the bottom of the 7th inning and needed just three outs to advance to the 5A Championship Game.

Did that discourage Montour? Not at all!

Montour battled back, scoring nine runs in the inning to force extras. After everyone finally caught their breath heading into the 8th, USC answered with three runs of its own, including a two-run home run.

Upper St. Clair survived to win the game and will now play for the WPIAL 5A Championship on Wednesday night against #10 South Fayette as the #12 seed.

Games like this are the definition of playing until the final out because a baseball game truly is never over until it’s over!

#3 Thomas Jefferson and #10 South Fayette will be up first at noon, with #8 Montour and #12 Upper St. Clair following at 3:30 as the four teams battle for a trip to EQT Park and the opportunity to play for the WPIAL 5A Championship next week.
