If you're looking to get into the scouting/personnel space (NFL/College), here are a few things (The Basics) I've learned from experience in football and from mentors.🏈
- Evaluate Snap to Finish.
Example:
Good initial quickness into his 45-degree set, displaying patience with good hand timing and placement to swipe off the DE initial punch, and then anchoring with good lower body/core strength.
(Obviously, you would evaluate them based on their film as a whole, not one rep. Evaluating their athletic ability, build/frame, critical factors, etc. Trust your eval!)
- Learn Databases Early
Whether you get the opportunity in high school, college, or free time, become familiar with databases you can get access to in the public, which include Microsoft Office (Excel/Sheets, Word/Docs, PowerPoint, etc.), PFF, Hudl, etc.
