@pickover Not so mysterious. 1/5555555555 ˚ = 9/5 * 10^(-10) ˚ = 9/5 * 10^(-10) * π/180 radians = π*10^(-12) radians. Its sine is, as expected, π*10^(-12). In each case, the error is about 1 part in 10^10.
Similarly, sin(1/55555555555555555555)˚ is close to π*10^(-20)
@pickover It's not uncommon for musicians to be able to "read" a score mentally (I am an amateur musician [inter alia]; I can read the score, but I would prefer it to be printed for legibility). More rarely, they can "read" it at the correct pitch. I can do that too.
On phone to VM to get tech advice about the massive email duplications. Or rather, on hold since 09:00 (yes, over an hour, and the emails went down again while I was on hold).
After 23.5 hours of no emails yesterday, it looks like I have about 6000 emails overnight ... or rather about 30 copies each of about 200 emails (of which perhaps 20 might be important & another 20 of interest). Any ideas about clearing up the mess before the mailbox overflows?
Virgin Media: Is there a way of removing lots of duplicates from the flood of emails coming through after the outage? About 3600 emails in 3 hours (OK, 20 copies each of 180 emails...).
@virginmedia Emails came back up about 22:30 (after 23.5 hours of dead email). And they keep coming. About 3600 emails received in 3 hours (far more than I can deal with) and massively duplicated (about 20 copies of each, so far). I need HELP before my mailbox fills up.
Anyone else having problems with Virgin Media email in the UK (Surrey / Berkshire / Hampshire)? It's been down since just after 23:00 Sunday 18 June, UK time (just over 11 hours) with login failures and failures to find the servers.
Emails are coming through in floods ... about 3000 so far, with about 20 copies of each individual email. Far too many for me to cope with. Any ideas for removing duplicates and cleaning up the resulting mess?
VM email looks like it is staggering back to life. I just had 607 incoming emails. The downtime was about 23.5 hours. HOWEVER the emails arrived in an 8 minute period, in random order. So it will take a while to figure out what order they should have arrived in!

@virginmedia Perhaps we should quantify the apology. How about £10 per hour of downtime, for each affected customer? Or perhaps we should also ask for the CEO's head on a platter as a sort of side-salad?
@virginmedia @bringupthePIAT I do try to express myself clearly, so as to leave little or no room for misunderstanding. I will be equally clear in my language in my forthcoming complaint to Ofcom.
