Oooh boy! Crew member shared a picture of the ONE Apus following reports of an estimated 1900 container lost or damaged. This could be the worst liner shipping disaster outside of total loss of vessel!

Is buying large books you’ll never open as home decor a universal wife activity?

It’s about time consumers stop putting up with “supply chain issue” as an excuse for poor planning and performance of furniture companies supply chains.

Crazy “I’m old moment” when your nephew opens a LeBron sixers jersey at the same age you opened a LeBron rookie cavs jersey.

Stephen Colbert (@StephenAtHome) , @MarineTraffic power user and late night host, is officially coming for my job.

Not going to lie I had to do a double take to make sure this was not AI. Turns out Stephen is actually a ship nerd just like us!

[Connor Helm @connorhelm]

@mercoglianos @MarineTraffic If it’s good enough for Sal and Stephen Colbert it’s good enough for anyone!

[Connor Helm @connorhelm]

Strait of Hormuz traffic drops sharply amid regional escalation

Vessel activity in the Strait of Hormuz has shifted materially following recent US strikes on Iran and the subsequent regional escalation. According to real-time traffic analysis, transits through the chokepoint fell by approximately 70% after 16:00 UTC on 28 February, compared with levels 12 hours earlier.

#MarineTraffic playback shows visible behavioural changes across the region over the past three days, including U-turns, idling, reduced speeds, and last-minute diversions, particularly after maritime security warnings were issued. @StateDept @grok what visa types are impacted?

[Connor Helm @connorhelm]

The spikes in 2013 and 2020 are attributed to the sinking of MOL Comfort (2013) and the large at-sea container collapse of the ONE APUS (2020).

[Connor Helm @connorhelm]

With the pictures of ZIM Mississippi's container collapse at the Port of Long Beach circulating on social media this morning, it's a good time to share some statistics on containers lost overboard from the World Shipping Council.

[Connor Helm @connorhelm]

Notably, the 576 containers lost at sea in 2024 represent just 0.0002% of all containers transported.

[Connor Helm @connorhelm]

In 2024, there was a 160% increase in containers lost overboard reported year-over-year. This increase can be attributed to the 191% surge in transits around the Cape of Good Hope, as vessels continue to reroute away from the BAM Strait due to the threat of Houthi attacks.

Attending grad school directly after college especially at the same college is a terrible idea and a total cash grab by colleges. (Unless required for your degree)

@thesamparr Wildwood, NJ has a program to bring in Europeans to work summer jobs on/off the boardwalk. Every time this tweet makes the rounds I think of the Lithuanian I worked with who let me use his ID to get into my first bar on European night. I was 16 and not European lolll.
