My Obsidian voice transcription plugin project is already out of control.
Some idiot (me) keeps giving Claude new requirements and it keeps knocking it out of the park.
Despite a 2GB Nvidia model download on first run, I might bundle it up as a Community plugin, it's that good.
I, along with the rest of the Deno company, am joining Cloudflare!
I'm motivated by abstractions that give leverage at scale. The Cloudflare workers programming model is a hermetic computing abstraction that truly embodies the old Sun Microsystems tagline "The Network Is the Computer". The programming abstractions that Kenton designed really force scalability. If you squint your eyes you might even conceive of it as a distributed high-level operating system.
The only major problem with this distributed operating system is that practically people only use it inside of Cloudflare. Cloudflare is an amazing service for nearly all applications - but there are many situations when you might need it to run elsewhere.
I want to solve this problem and make the Workers programming model the default way you write server-side application code.
The time is ripe for new abstractions too - what software we run and how we run it are changing quickly with AI. The number of agents is exploding and I don't think they all need a Linux VM. A much more lightweight Durable Object would suffice for many applications. I'm super keen to talk to people who want to self-host agents at scale on DOs - msg me!
Quietly admits I never actually managed to finish "What I Talk About When I Talk About Running", I thought it was so boring and too close to wax-on wax-off.
Video: A Haruki Marukami mega fan reacts with sadness to the announcement that his favorite novelist did not win this year's Nobel Prize for Literature. In their haste to create an announcement sign, someone misspelled the name of the winner, Anne Carson.
And of course now I'm watching videos of how the Ferguson System works and how it became an international standard.
The /v1/chat/completions of the 1940s.
Now that Azure Foundry and AWS Bedrock have some common models, doing seamless fallbacks across vendors using an LLM proxy like Bifrost or LiteLLM is a no-brainer.
One solution for a customer had 25 Bedrock errors yesterday. But it saw none as all were caught by fallback model.
Nvidia GTX 1650 super
- 4 GB of VRAM
- 192 GB/s memory bandwidth
Pretty bad card by today’s standards.
I wonder if I can get qwen3.6-35B running on it w full context.. 🤠
Thinking today of all killed & injured at the Nova festival but particularly of Erick & Ruth Peretz.
Ruth had cerebral palsy & learning disability & loved music so Erick her Dad would lift her from her chair & dance with her.
When the terrorists came Erick was last seen running with Ruth in his arms.
(Pictured here with Yamit Peretz who survived only as she had left the festival earlier.)
There are Mass rocks in Irish fields that we still regard as holy. Under the Penal Laws of the 18th century, Catholics gathered at them in secret. Lookouts were posted on high ground, and the time and place were passed around quietly by word of mouth. Priests still say Mass at some of those rocks today, so we can remember the risks people once took just to gather together as a community of faith.
Today, the Chief Rabbi of Ireland, Yoni Wieder, explained that Dublin's main synagogue held no public memorial on the third anniversary of October 7th because the risk was too high that someone might try to physically attack the participants. He points to recent fatal attacks on synagogues and other Jewish events in the UK, the US, and Australia. A commemoration will go ahead at an unspecified time and place, but those who register won't learn the details until 24 hours beforehand.
The small Jewish community is also concerned that vigils and commemorations will attract pro-Palestinian protesters. "I don’t think that a grieving daughter who has come to mourn her father, who was murdered by terrorists, should have to walk past somebody shouting at her that she’s a ‘baby killer’," the Chief Rabbi said. What he asks for is modest and reasonable: "a basic human boundary around people who are simply coming to mourn their dead."
No law forbids religious worship in Ireland anymore. There are no priest-hunters and no bounties. Article 44 of the Irish constitution states: "Freedom of conscience and the free profession and practice of religion are, subject to public order and morality, guaranteed to every citizen." And yet, in a country with fewer than 2,200 Jews, many now gather at undisclosed locations out of fear. That climate did not arise by itself. It has been fostered by the Irish state, whose leaders have made denouncing Israel a test of national virtue and have rarely taken responsibility for where that rhetoric leads.
We built much of our national memory around people who were forced to gather in secret. We of all nations should recognise it when it happens again.
