Work has begun on a new three-year Community Safety Plan for County Cork.

The Cork County Local Community Safety Partnership recently met at County Hall, bringing together representatives from local government, An Garda Síochána, the HSE, community groups and key sectors across the county.

A new subgroup has been established to lead the development of the plan, with a public consultation process set to launch in the coming months—giving communities a vital opportunity to shape local safety priorities.

Together, we’re working to build safer, stronger communities across Cork.

Young people from Cork, Lurgan and Portadown came together at County Hall last Saturday, June 6th for a cross‑border Comhairle na nÓg showcase as part of Cruinniú na nÓg 2026.

Through theatre and music, over 50 participants presented original performances exploring identity, culture and shared experiences—celebrating creativity, collaboration and youth voice across the island.

The Cork County Comhairle na nÓg Shared Island Cruinniú na nÓg Project 2026 is a cross‑border, youth‑led creative initiative connecting young people from Cork County, Lurgan, and Portadown through the YMCA network.

We would like to inform all customers that the Hydrotherapy Pool at West Cork Leisure Centre, Dunmanway is currently closed due to essential repair works.

We are inviting the public to meet the project team and share their views on a proposed scheme to enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility between Baile Bhúirne and Baile Mhic Íre.

The project aims to:
✔️ Improve safety for pedestrians travelling between and within both villages
✔️ Introduce traffic calming measures, including a 30km/h speed limit zone
✔️ Provide new pedestrian crossings
✔️ Deliver “Safe Routes to School” measures near Scoil Abán Naofa

🎶We are pleased to welcome the return of the Summer Performances across West Cork, a community-led initiative to promote tourism and celebrate the vibrant music culture of West Cork.

💰The Special Music Event Scheme, provides funding to voluntary music groups to organise and perform music events in their local towns.

🎻Featuring traditional, concert, silver and brass bands, the programme includes 20 free performances across Clonakilty, Kinsale, Skibbereen, Bandon and Dunmanway throughout the summer.

📣We have launched an online survey to help determine the level of demand for affordable housing across the county. The information collected will help the Council plan future affordable housing schemes and decide eligibility requirements.

✍️The survey is aimed at first time buyers and other people who believe they may be eligible to buy an affordable home. Participants are asked to provide details such as income levels, family size, disability status and other relevant information.

🏠The data gathered will be used by Cork County Council to build a clearer picture of affordable housing need and to support informed decision-making on the scale, design and location of future developments.
