A blue jay is blue because of structure, not pigment.
Its feathers don’t contain true blue dye or turn blue because of what they eat. Instead, the microscopic structure of the feather scatters light in a way that lets mostly blue wavelengths bounce back to our eyes. So the blue is almost like an optical event.

Dancing between digital painting and oil painting, I have found that they serve each-other in my practice. Leveling up my skills in one helps my skills in the other. AI can help but nothing gets as close to when my hand touches the artwork. When every shadow is intentional, every brushstroke a step towards the final vision, you can feel my soul in the work. When I step back and look at what I do from outside my box I would think I’m a bit insane for sitting with the same composition and developing it in different mediums looking for different results. Now, I’ve stopped looking for anything at this point and I’m just letting these feelings go that I’ve held onto for so long. The vision is blurry at first and the more I sit with it and integrate my skills into the works the vision becomes clearer.
