A screening call is your first chance to show a recruiter why you're the right fit for the role.

Here's what recruiters at Coursera shared about what makes a candidate stand out:

1️⃣ Do your homework.
"Candidates who have done their homework and understand the company's brand and value proposition always stand out in a screening call."

— Jennifer Conde, Senior Recruiter

2️⃣ Listen and engage.
"A memorable candidate is one that listens and engages."

— Gareth Mullan, Director of Talent Acquisition

3️⃣ Back it up with examples.
"Strong candidates anchor their answers in specific past examples, clearly explaining the problem they worked on, the actions they took, and the outcomes they drove."

— Induja Rajendran, Senior Manager

💡 Before your next call, research the company, listen closely, and come ready with specific examples of your impact.

What does an entrepreneurial mindset look like at work?

The story behind the Post-it® Note offers five ideas. 🧵

[Coursera @coursera]

Keep developing the idea.

Fry and Silver continued developing the idea before Post-it® Notes eventually launched.

Ask yourself: What could make my idea stronger?

[Coursera @coursera]

Being helpful at work doesn’t always mean saying yes.

Sometimes the most helpful thing you can do is make the tradeoff visible.

When someone adds something new to your plate, try asking:

→ What should this take priority over?
→ When does this actually need to be done?
→ What happens if we wait?
→ Is there something else I should deprioritize?

You don’t always need to say no.

Sometimes you just need to make it clear what saying yes will require.

@IITGuwahati His advice to other students is simple:

Put what you learn into practice.

Build it. Test it. Break it. Debug it.

That’s how abstract ideas can start to click.
