Pediatrician and @FamilyHeartFdn Board member with a Fhxof Lp(a).
I spend my days translating medical jargon for kids; just trying to do the same for Lp(a)!
I hope today helps more people #KnowLpa. There is an urgency here. In honor of my sister Catherine I will continue to shout about #LpaAwareness from the mountain tops! Thanks for the platform #FamilyHeartFoundation
When Dr. Sperling, new CMO of @FamilyHeartFdn called @KAWilemon his “hero” all I could think was… same!
Thank you for carrying the torch for patient with FH and high Lp(a) with such grace and strength. If you keep shining your light so brightly we all may find our way home ❤️
@inspector71SFPD If you have an LDL-C > 140 mg/dL as a kid or 190 mg/dL as an adult and secondary causes (not many exist and are easy to spot) are ruled out - you have FH
A3: Lowering LDL-C has a big impact on reducing cardiovascular disease risk over the life course. For every 40 mg/dL reduction in LDL that is maintained for about 5 years, a person’s risk of heart disease or events falls by 20% #KnowFH

A5 Too many believe the fallacy that lowering plasma cholesterol too much impairs its delivery to tissues which require it for many reasons. The truth is all cells in all tissues (including the brain) synthesize all of the cholesterol they require in a multistep process do not depend on lipoprotein (LDL)-mediated delivery. The cellular biochemical steps of cholesterol are depicted and noted is that cells have TWO synthesis pathways which ensure cholesterol synthesis is never deficient. . #KnowFH @nationallipid@society_Eas@escardio@atherosociety @fhpatienteu
The LEAD Pediatric Cholesterol Screening group is bringing general pediatricians and pediatric cardiologists together TODAY to help try to answer this very question. The AAP guidelines are clear and not new… let’s make it easy to follow them. #knowFH
Time is such an important variable in prevention of genetic heart disease! With LDL management it’s not only how low, but how long! #KnowFH early because #FHCantWait
A3: Individuals with FH who find and treat the disorder early can reduce their risk of heart disease by about 80%. Adults should begin therapy immediately. #KnowFH#FHCantWait#Prevention

Aditi was told she was too young and fit to worry about her high cholesterol. And then she had a stroke. Watch her whole story to finding out she has FH: https://t.co/HdQ0OpWbhw

@TheFHFoundation There is great hope that new therapies in late stage clinical trials will be HIGHLY affective in reducing Lp(a) AND the risk of heart disease. If you have high Lp(a) and heart disease there may be a clinical trial for you! #KnowLpa
At our #FamilyHeartSummit23 we convened 250+ people to “look through a wider lens” & discuss practical ways to bridging the gaps of a broken healthcare system.
Thank you to our sponsors @Amgen, @Novartis, @Regeneron, @VerveTX, @AmrytPharma, Kaneka, and Family Heart Partners!
Pretty important read especially for the cholesterol deniers and double especially for those deniers with children. @TheFHFoundation @nationallipid@society_eas@fhpatienteurope
@DrMichaelShapir@DrMarthaGulati Lipid management in pediatric patients! Why wait until there’s an event? By the time patients make their way to a cardiologist, years of damage have taken their toll.
