one where local applications were much more complicated and fussy,
one where there was no Internet (as we know it),
one where security was not really a thing.

An airline employee checking in passengers, rebooking flights, executing checklists, does not need Windows (or MacOS)- nor does a healthcare employee checking records in an EMR/patient management tool (Epic, etc.).
