.@SecretaryWright’s comments are spot on. An export ban would be counterproductive, make things worse for consumers, and undermine 20 months of the President’s work on his energy dominance agenda.

NEWS: U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright on Wednesday said a U.S. ban on diesel exports would not work and could push up gasoline and jet fuel prices, putting him at odds with President Donald Trump, who on Tuesday backed the idea as diesel prices have surged to record highs in the United States and Europe amid the wars in Iran and Ukraine.

[Chet Thompson @CThompsonAFPM]

AFPM agrees with @WSJopinion: A diesel export ban will only worsen the situation.

Respectfully, Governor, a diesel export ban is the wrong answer. It would mean less U.S. fuel production, tighter supplies, greater energy security risks, and higher prices. There are better ways to reduce costs, including RFS reform and fixing barriers that make it harder to move fuel where it's needed.

[Governor Jeff Landry @LAGovJeffLandry]

LET’S LOWER SOME FUEL COSTS NOW AND HELP THE ENTIRE U.S. ECONOMY with the Administration and Congress issuing a 90 day ban on U.S. diesel exports and making the small refinery exception permanent.

Today, on the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, we remember those who lost their lives — and we honor the profound courage of the firefighters, police officers and first responders who selflessly ran into danger to save others.

We will never forget.

[Chet Thompson @CThompsonAFPM]

We support @WSJopinion's call for Congress to stop California's unlawful attempts to set energy and transportation policy for the country. Congress has an obligation to step in and protect consumers, manufacturers and U.S. energy security. Americans don't want to pay California prices or be at the mercy of Sacramento politicians.

Recent events have Americans wondering about energy security and our position in global oil supply chains.

To be clear: We are in a position of strength in the United States because of our abundant oil and natural gas resources and our domestic refining and petrochemical industries.

Unlike countries that outsource their energy security and manufacturing to other parts of the world, American refiners make the fuels that power our economy right here at home. And our petrochemical manufacturers make the base materials that enable virtually all modern manufacturing right here as well.

Both industries are essential for U.S. energy security and maintaining our modern way of life.

[Chet Thompson @CThompsonAFPM]

Everyone talks about bringing manufacturing back. Far fewer people talk about what manufacturing depends on.

The reality is simple: You can't have a strong manufacturing sector without the materials that make manufacturing possible. Petrochemicals are at the heart of American manufacturing, helping us produce everything from medical devices and semiconductors to circuit boards and solar panels.

Because we have abundant petrochemical feedstocks (oil and natural gas) right here at home, we're better positioned in the United States to weather global supply chain disruptions, maintain strong U.S. manufacturing, and support the larger economy.

The United States has a true competitive global advantage in the petrochemical manufacturing space, and it’s our responsibility to maintain it.

[Chet Thompson @CThompsonAFPM]

So not only are EPA's Renewable Fuel Standards the most expensive ever — adding around 40-cents per gallon in compliance costs to every gallon of gasoline and diesel refiners make for the U.S. market — they are also making us more dependent on foreign biofuel producers. What a ridiculous outcome for a program intended to make our country more energy independent.

Not only do we have abundant crude oil and natural gas resources right under our feet and through trade with our North American neighbors, but we also have the best refining sector in all the world. That means we’re able to produce the gasoline, diesel and jet fuel both we and our allies need right here at home.

Domestic energy production and refining aren’t just economic advantages; they’re national security assets that reduce our exposure to global chokepoints like the Strait of Hormuz.

Recent events in the Middle East are a reminder: Strong U.S. refining and North American energy ties matter.

[Chet Thompson @CThompsonAFPM]

As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of our great country, I want to stop and reflect on the role the U.S. refining, petrochemical, and midstream energy industries have played in the United States' rise from a loose collection of colonies into the global superpower we are today. Our country's trajectory changed dramatically with the dawn of refining in 1850 and the first commercial oil well in 1859.

Fuels, petrochemicals, and pipelines helped grow our economy, expand our infrastructure, and build our middle class. They connected communities, powered innovation, and created the products we rely on every day — from medical devices to cell phones and everything in between.

I can’t tell you for sure what the next 250 years will bring for America, but I can tell you this: Our refiners, petrochemical manufacturers, and midstream energy workforce will play a key role in it, and we’ll continue to create, adapt, and innovate along the way.

Happy Fourth of July!

[Chet Thompson @CThompsonAFPM]

On this Memorial Day, we remember the brave men and women of our armed forces who laid down their lives to defend our country and our freedoms.

[Chet Thompson @CThompsonAFPM]

What an honor it was for President George W. Bush to join us for the 50th anniversary of AFPM's International Petrochemical Conference. We had a fantastic conversation about today's global challenges, the importance of our domestic energy and petrochemicals industries, and insights from his time in the White House. President Bush also shared powerful, firsthand recollections and reflections from the immediate aftermath of September 11th, a defining moment in our nation's history.

[Chet Thompson @CThompsonAFPM]

But we should take to heart, in this moment, just how important the domestic policy environment is to U.S. energy security as well. Federal and state policies can either reinforce or undercut our U.S. energy advantage. With the right policies, I have no doubt the U.S. refining, petrochemical, and midstream industries will continue meeting the moment for our country again and again.

[Chet Thompson @CThompsonAFPM]

Today’s conflict in the Middle East underscores the importance of energy security, and just how blessed we are in the United States, and in North America, to have abundant natural resources, world-class refining and petrochemical assets, midstream infrastructure, and an amazing workforce.

[Chet Thompson @CThompsonAFPM]

As the world’s energy superpower, we are much better positioned to weather the storm. We produce more gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and refined products than any other country, and more than we consume here at home.

[Chet Thompson @CThompsonAFPM]

So proud of the AFPM Operational Excellence Team and our members for the work they put into AFPM’s safety programs. We’re humbled by this recognition from the CSB.

[AFPM @AFPMonline]

At our recent Annual Meeting, the @chemsafetyboard presented AFPM with a Safety Spotlight. They cited our voluntary initiative to improve FCC process safety, including hosting in-person workshops at more than 85% of refineries with FCC units in the U.S. and Canada — with more workshops to come over the next few years!

[Chet Thompson @CThompsonAFPM]

That combination matters enormously right now. It means U.S. petrochemical manufacturers are not just weathering this disruption — we are in a position to help stabilize supply, support our allies, and keep essential materials flowing right when the world needs them and us most.

[Chet Thompson @CThompsonAFPM]

Global market turbulence is underscoring just how fortunate we are in the United States to have the strongest petrochemical industry in the world.

[Chet Thompson @CThompsonAFPM]

We have abundant, affordable domestic resources right here at home; world-class petrochemical facilities; a midstream ecosystem of deepwater ports, pipelines, and rail networks that connect production to markets; and we have the most skilled, innovative workforce anywhere on Earth.
