@256Gooner@TomCantonMedia This is the point I’ve been trying to make. Something not many seem willing to discuss. Is it not fair to expect both players to be judged by the same standards and given the same opportunities?
The issue has never been about whether you support Kai Havertz or Viktor Gyokeres. It’s about how Mikel Arteta is handling the situation.
I’ll always give Arteta credit for how far he has taken this club, but that doesn’t mean he should be above criticism. He has done a lot for Arsenal, yet some of his decisions and questionable player preferences have arguably cost us in crucial moments.
My biggest concern is the apparent difference in how Havertz and Gyökeres are being treated. Havertz can put in several underwhelming performances and still seem to enjoy Arteta’s trust, consistent minutes and potentially a new contract, while Gyokeres doesn’t appear to be afforded the same patience or room to find his rhythm.
If both players are expected to earn their place in this team, then the standards should be consistent. Nobody is asking Arteta to abandon Havertz or blindly favour Gyokeres; we’re simply asking for accountability and a fair opportunity for both players.
Supporting Arteta doesn’t mean agreeing with every decision he makes. He’s human, he makes mistakes, and he isn’t above criticism. We can appreciate what he has done for Arsenal while still questioning the decisions that could hold us back🤝
@LO_GRC@TomCantonMedia Lazy argument? We’ve won our first league title in 22 years, acting like we win it every season. Gyökeres played his part in that. Criticising his performances is fair, but abusing him and writing him off before he’s had a fair chance is ridiculous.
@TomCantonMedia My point is Havertz came back and was quickly put ahead of Gyökeres. We then lost to Bournemouth and City with him starting. I’m not blaming him for those defeats, but why does Gyökeres seem to have a much shorter leash? That’s the inconsistency I’m questioning.
@TomCantonMedia Don’t you think the summer has played a part in this? He was the main man against Atlético in the semi-final, then dropped for the final. We can agree to disagree all night, Tom, but in my opinion he simply doesn’t get the same treatment or patience others have had.
@LO_GRC@TomCantonMedia Havertz has never led us to a league title as our main striker, has he? Gyökeres came into a new league, scored 21 goals and helped us win it in his first season. Only Henry, Wright and Alexis have hit 20+ in their debut season for Arsenal in the PL era.
@TomCantonMedia The way sections of our fanbase have already written him off without giving him a proper chance. There’s a difference between fair criticism and calling someone useless.
@TomCantonMedia I’m not saying he doesn’t need to do better. Maybe we can have a conversation about replacing him because he’s not Arteta’s guy. But the disrespect he’s getting from this fanbase after what we won last season is ridiculous. I was 8 years old when we last won the Prem, so I barely
