“A lot of the pioneers of sampling have music out there for which they don’t make a penny because nobody attempted to clear the rights.” INCREDIBLE, insightful read. 📖

Unfortunately, most people are much more willing to watch a video than listen to a song. You can't just release a recording anymore. A video should accompany every song. Every time.

You can have all the talent in the world, but if you don't take care of your physical and mental health, it doesn't matter. You will fail. The key to a successful career in music is preservation. And it all starts with self.

Being an artist manager
Being a publicist
Being an A&R
Being a digital marketer
Being a booking agent
Being a product manager
Being a social media manager

The "single deal" isn't as prevalent as it once was, but with the playlist era at its peak, it's time for a return. Labels and artists could test the waters w/ a short-term commitment, w/ multiple options to extend the relationship. A show and prove opportunity for both parties.
Going at it independently isn't a viable option for ALL artists. For some, it can work. Others would be wise to sign with a label, assuming they can agree to terms they understand and can live with. In both cases, patience is a requirement.
Top 5 worst email opens, ranked:
1. Hi There – never, unless my name is "There"
2. Well Hello – are you hitting on me?
3. Hey Hey – this email better be celebratory
4. Howdy – wait, what year is it?
5. Hiya – no, unless we're super close
If you work hard enough, you can and will have a very successful career doing what you love. Don’t let anyone tell you that music is not a viable career path.
