Patrick Copen...AGAIN!
6.1IP | 1H | 0R | 9Ks | 3BB
The 9 Ks is a high for Copen at the AA level, and the ONLY hit he gave up was to the 3rd hitter of the game. He also struck out 8 of the 9 hitters in the Frisco lineup, and just didn't give up much hard contact at all.
He got the W to move to 3-0, and ironically, it's his 2nd outing this year that he's gone EXACTLY 6.1 innings, given up EXACTLY 1 hit, and struck out EXACTLY 9 hitters. He did that two starts ago on April 10th as well at Springfield, against a really good Cardinals lineup.
ERA is down to 1.23, average against is .149, WHIP is 1.05, and he has 31 Ks in 22 innings. AS A STARTER!
Cutter looked great, especially to lefties to get underneath their bats. The fastball was explosive, as evidenced by the fact that it recorded his 1st 4 Ks., His breaking ball had GREAT depth, and he also landed a change for strike 1, too.
This is what you call stuff meeting execution, and when that happens, it's ADIOS! Atta Baby Cope, Keep Ringin' that Cowbell, my man!#dodgers #dodgersprospects
#Dodgers top 30 prospect Patrick Copen is through six innings with 9 strike outs. The question is, was that his last inning, he's at 80 pitches. @TulsaDrillers
#Dodgers number 29 top rated prospect Patrick has faced the minimum through four innings. 49 P / 32 S / 4 IP / 1 H / 0 ER / 1 BB / 5 K / FB 97-99 mph @TulsaDrillers
Patrick Copen turned in his BEST outing as a pro.
6.1IP | 1H | 0R | 9Ks | 4BB
Copen had a crazy good breaking ball, his slider & fastball were perfectly located, and he did that over & over, all night. He retired the first 7 hitters of the game. He got runners on 1st and 2nd in the 4th, but that was the extent to which he got threatened.
And, also, let me say this, Hammons Field is NOT an easy place to pitch. It always seems like the scores there are pretty large, and, for the 2nd year in a row, the Springfield Cardinals are VERY good. In fact, last year they were the best team in the Texas League, and it wasn't close.
Well done, Patrick, we're just scratchin' the surface here, my man. Many more of these to come! #dodgers #dodgersprospects
Dadgummit!
Patrick Copen just gave up a broken bat hit to break up his NO-HITTER. It was the 7th, so I doubt he would have been allowed to go 9, but that would have been a very interesting decision to monitor.
How it ended, the hit took the decision away from Manager Eric Wedge, and Copen came out immediately. Breakdown on his start coming up. #dodgersprospects
Patrick Copen...HECK YEAH!
Copen was DOMINANT in his first start with AA Tulsa.
5IP | 2H | 0R | 8Ks | 3BB
His 3rd pitch of the night was 98, and when he threw it to the top of the zone, it was BUHBYE! His slider was tight when it turned left, and it turned to miss bats. He then was ALSO able to add depth to that pitch drop in strikes & keep them from getting ambushed. His curveball, as you saw, to the 2nd hitter fell off the table pretty good, so great stuff from the big man.
This outing was "stuff" mixing in with TREMENDOUS sequencing, combined with VERY GOOD execution. Atta baby Cope! #dodgers #dodgersprospects
