Hi @Sport_England do you have a position on Pump Tracks and Skate Parks. Are they venues for delinquency and drugs dealing? Or community assets that give young people opportunity to be social, active and outside?
There are lots of really sad things about this thread, but maybe the saddest is the reduction of trust in fellow humans that makes sealing a family off in a personal vehicle seem so necessary.
Active Travel Twitter/X. Considering the plans in image A, can you provide any similar locations where markings or inlay is used through the junction (purple in image B) to help ahead cyclists (green arrow) with respect to left-hooks (orange arrow)? Thank you.
Okay, I see I need to be far more specific. Given the awful junction in image A. Is there anything we can salvage at a late stage under LTN 1/20 para 6.7.4
"Coloured surfacing may be useful in the following situations: Routes through complex junctions."?
@edwardjtaylor 100% with you that ASL is red flag for outdated design. As I said this is polishing a turd, but trying to see what we can get at a late stage.
@edwardjtaylor Thank you. That's so close to the plan in question it has to have been known about and not found suitable as an example. Anything with the traffic signals and advance stop line setup as in the plan?
@NickTurpin I, unlike you, live a short ride from this location. Many of the cycle route have cats eyes. One thing they don't look like is another carriageway.
@NickTurpin So what? Driver was doing 71mph in a 40mph street. Mounted the pavement at over 50mph. And still we look for excuses to lower culpability. Disgusting motonormativity.
Can we get angry now? Can we call for better, safer routes for teen cyclists yet? Can we ensure new drivers are properly vetted? Or only allowed in speed limited vehicles? Or do wait for the next death?
Sentencing was today. Young driver, twice the speed limit, over seer onto the cycle path, teenage rider "doing nothing wrong". No surprise to me having visited the location and seen the evidence markers.
Isla's family has issued a statement. They say that Isla had done nothing wrong & had no chance when the life to which she was entitled was taken cruelly from her. They are asking for mandatory speed limiters or recorders to be considered for all vehicles.

Oliver Nicholls, 22, has been jailed for almost 5 years for causing death by dangerous driving.
He had accelerated up to 71mph, three seconds prior to the crash that killed Isla Cochrane, 14, and was travelling around 54mph when he mounted the cycle path.

Yes get to a difficult junction, throw your hands in the air and give up. "Cyclist dismount" [we prioritise motoring here]. Did they even ask for bolder options @camcycle?
