Why I'm not cynical –
"There's this tendency in the far right to encourage us all to give up on human connection and entirely be self-serving and cynical about the notion of connection."

A recent 5-star review of my #memoir: "Absolutely masterful writing style ... I was unable to put this book down. If the scale went to 6 stars, that's how I'd rate it ... Unflinchingly honest ... many moments of dry humour ... poignant, heart-wrenching." https://t.co/HPvpNKUdP1

Lucky to spend another birthday with the faaaabulous @TriciaDearborn ... whose desire for books and chocolates and fun (and public health) knows no bounds 🎂 ❤️🎉👩❤️👩 😷
Me and my baby at the beginning of today's (my) birthday rampage: coffee and pastries from Two Chaps in Marrickville, followed by a book spree at Gleebooks Dulwich Hill @gleebooksdh, then chocolates from Belle Fleur (they're amazing)
The one and only Ferron on songwriting:
"That's my job, to go right to the edge and look down the vast purposelessness of everything and make it become something."

'Beauty, truth, god, the soul, duende, poetry—all exist without a purpose beyond themselves. They are not products. They are not “content.” A sublime uselessness.' – Diane Seuss ❤️
@TriciaDearborn A surgeon in a hospital ER told me this very thing last Saturday. Unbelievable. I took N95s into the surgery with me and asked the anesthesiologist to please ask the surgical team to wear them. They did. 😷😷😷😷
Thank you for your tireless COVID-education posts, @TriciaDearborn
@LEAD_Coalition@GuardianBooks@stevesilberman Thanks so much for the RT, Ian.
My memoir The Year My Family Unravelled (Affirm Press) might interest anyone who is or has been a carer for a loved one with dementia – or who has an interest in stories about family, love, and loss.

My Guardian article summarises a few key things I learned when helping my dad, who had #dementia. For more on that rollercoaster of a year, check out my #memoir The Year My Family Unravelled (Affirm Press).

@organicbotanic@AffirmPress @m_tom_writer @ReadingsBooks@TriciaDearborn Thank you, Sue! I try to infuse my academic/research writing with craft and creativity too, but with memoir there's a wonderful freedom. It's such a pleasure to write.
