A strong turnout today in Abuja for the #WMD2025 Road Walk and Ministerial Round Table! Proud to support the drive toward a malaria-free Nigeria and world.

We commemorate the World Health Day 2026 deeply conscious that health is one of the most strategic investments a nation can make in ensuring a healthier and safer future for all.
The World Health Organization (#WHO) has aptly pronounced this year’s theme as, “Together for health. Stand with science.” It envisages year-long focus on the power of scientific collaboration to protect the health of people, animals, plants, and the planet. This is a wholesome approach. The spotlight on scientific achievements and multilateral cooperation is equally pertinent.
As the D-8 community, we mark this Day by not only reflecting on the progress so far, but also affirming the resolve to upscale it substantially. The D-8’s collective journey accelerated in Abuja (2019) with a unified Health and Social Protection Programme (D-8 HSP) anchored in seven strategic pillars -- from primary care to innovative financing.
Momentum strengthened in 2022 through collaboration with the Islamic Development Bank, including the first D-8 Forum on SMEs and Health Markets -- unlocking opportunities in therapeutic goods and advancing public-private partnerships.
A defining milestone came in Cairo (November 2025), where the D-8 Health Ministers convened for the first time -- adopting a landmark Declaration and establishing a permanent Health Working Group, institutionalizing long-term cooperation.
Most importantly, the Ministers reaffirmed the “shared vision for a healthier, fairer, and more resilient future” and committed themselves to translating it into action, guided by the principles of solidarity, innovation, and equity.
With over 1.2 billion citizens, our responsibility is clear: To help build resilient, inclusive, and future-ready health systems.
Together, we move forward -- with science, solidarity, and international cooperation!

The National Integrated Measles Rubella (MR) Vaccination Campaign begins this October!
Measles is highly contagious and can cause severe complications like pneumonia and brain damage. Rubella, though often mild, can lead to serious birth defects if a pregnant woman is infected
I encourage every parent and caregiver to take all children aged 9 months to 14 years to get the MR vaccine along with other routine vaccines during the campaign.
Let’s protect our children, families, and future.
