Congress should not reduce earned disability compensation for future disabled veterans to pay for other priorities, especially when the Department of Veterans Affairs has stated that no changes are planned or imminent. When you’re caring for someone else, it can be easy to put their needs before your own. Sometimes, the plans you made for yourself change. Having someone to talk to who understands can help you recognize the signs of physical and mental burnout and help you reduce them. They can also provide you with a customized plan and resources to manage your caregiver role, benefiting you and your care receiver.

The history of Juneteenth (also known as Freedom Day) dates back to 1865 in Texas, where the final enslaved people in America were declared free under the Emancipation Proclamation. Though its history is much older, it was declared an official federal holiday in 2021. DAV takes this holiday to reflect on the profound impact that Black veterans of the Civil War had and the sacrifices they made to make freedom a possibility for all Americans.
