🐒✨ When wild monkeys met a mirror, curiosity took over!
They poked, peered, and played — no aggression at all. A reminder that primates explore the world much like we do: with wonder.
There are 2 species of wild monkeys in Florida:
🐒 Vervets (Dania Beach)
🐵 Macaques (Ocala/Silver Springs)
That’s it.
❌ None in Miami-Dade.
✅ I’ve studied them for 12 years.

Who is that handsome fella? It’s Bjorn! Being a male vervet is not a walk in the park. They spend their lives couch surfing from one social group to the next. I was happy to see Bjorn looking UH-mazing after his first dispersal. Stay golden friend!

Spock and Victor’s Gourmet Experience: Michelin Star Edition

Dr. Missy talking monkey biz at the Living Book event was a great way to connect with community about the monkeys and the sanctuary mission. Monkeys were a hit.
The Living Book organizer made “book covers” for participants in today’s Living Book event. Love mine! Spot on description. YES, you can practice animal welfare and conservation at the same time.
Meet Ellie, our newest surrender. We hope to integrate her with Victor and Meeka in time. She is still adjusting to new faces and environment. We are home to more surrendered pet monkeys than wild monkeys. Primates are NOT pets.
