The DCI Queens fought with courage and resilience, but their impressive campaign in the KVF Womenโs National League came to an end at the semi-final stage today after a 3-0 defeat to defending champions Kenya Pipeline in Game Two of the best-of-three series at the Kasarani Indoor Arena, Nairobi.
The sleuths matched the experienced Oilers point for point for long stretches of the contest, with a thrilling second set highlighting their determination and quality.
However, Kenya Pipelineโs championship experience ultimately proved decisive as they secured a 25-19, 25-23, 25-18 victory to seal their place in the league final.
The champions had also won Fridayโs opening encounter in straight sets (25-17, 25-21, 28-26).
Though the result ended the Queensโ title quest, it did little to diminish a campaign defined by grit, discipline and an unyielding fighting spirit.
Their fearless performances throughout the season have firmly established them among the leagueโs top contenders.
The DCI Queens now shift their focus to the third-place play-off, where they will face the loser of the other semi-final between Kenya Prisons and KCB.
With a bronze medal still within reach in the July 17โ19 finals, the Queens have every reason to finish an outstanding season on a high.
Their journey to the title may have ended, but the season is far from over. Another battle awaits to showcase the resilience, unity and determination that have defined this remarkable campaign.
Congratulations to Kenya Pipeline, and all the best to DCI Queens in the battle for bronze.

Detectives have arrested eight suspects linked to a sophisticated SIM swap scheme that allegedly siphoned more than Sh1.2 million from an M-Pesa operator in Marsabit.
The suspects were intercepted at the Merille Barrier in Marsabit South while travelling in a white Toyota Probox, registration KDN 708Q, after detectives received information about their criminal acts.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the group posed as customers at an M-Pesa shop in Marsabit Town, where they are suspected of deceiving the operator before swapping the M-Pesa SIM card.
The fraudulent SIM swap enabled unauthorised access to the complainantโs Bank account, resulting in the theft of over KSh 1.2 million.
The suspects: Benrodgers Kyalo, Evans Mbweli, Patrick Vundi, Emily Mwende, Josephine Kasiva, Pius Mwenda, Alex Stima and Jane Mueni, along with the vehicle, were escorted to Marsabit Police Station, where they remain in custody as detectives continue with investigations.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations reminds M-Pesa agents and members of the public never to hand over their SIM cards, mobile phones or M-Pesa handsets to customers under any circumstances. Fraudsters often work in groups, creating distractions while executing their scheme. If a customer makes unusual requests or insists on handling your phone, treat it as a red flag.

In an intelligence-led crackdown, officers based at Kimilili Police Station in Bungoma County have arrested two suspects behind a mobile phone theft and hacking syndicate that has been giving residents sleepless nights.
Following complaints from members of the public whose hard-earned communication devices had been snatched by the two suspects and their accomplices, a joint task force of police officers and M-Kopa Kenya Limited officers swung into action.
The operation led officers to Jacaranda Youngers Electronics, a seemingly innocent shop in the heart of Kimilili town that served as the syndicateโs dark operational nerve centre.
It was here that the two suspected masterminds, Harrison Kariuki Thuku, 26, and James Gachanja Kahuria, 26, were cornered and apprehended before they could make a run for it.
A quick search of their shop led to the recovery of 34 M-Kopa mobile phones, 39 assorted smartphones and flashing tools used by the tech-savvy thugs to wipe memory, alter IMEI numbers, and breathe new life into stolen devices before thrusting them back into the black market.
The two suspects are currently cooling their heels in police custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment, as a manhunt for their accomplices who are still at large is ongoing.
Meanwhile, the recovered gadgets have been securely detained as exhibits and will be handed over to cyber forensics experts for extensive analysis to trace and identify their rightful owners.

โThis graduation represents another bold step in our national crusade against illicit drugs. Under the visionary leadership of His Excellency the President, and with the steadfast support of the Ministry of Interior and the Office of the Inspector General, we are systematically building an unbreakable wall against those who prey on our youth and undermine our national security. We remain profoundly grateful to the President for his unwavering commitment to this fight,โ he declared.
Director of the Anti-Narcotics Unit, Mr. Samuel Laboso, welcomed the officers into one of the Directorateโs most critical operational units, urging them to remain steadfast in protecting communities from the devastating impact of illicit drugs and bringing traffickers to justice.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) today conducted a comprehensive Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) sensitisation programme for Administration Police Service (APS) recruits at the National Police College, Embakasi 'A' Training Campus, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Kenya's frontline response to terrorism and violent extremism.
Spearheaded by officers from the Directorate of Countering Violent Extremism, the programme enhanced the recruits' understanding of the evolving terrorism and violent extremism threat landscape, radicalisation processes, and the increasingly sophisticated tactics employed by extremist groups, particularly those exploiting emerging technologies and online platforms.
The upcoming officers were equipped with practical knowledge and operational skills to identify, prevent, and respond to terrorism and violent extremism-related threats, while reinforcing their critical role in safeguarding the country against radicalisation and recruitment into extremist networks.
Key areas covered included radicalisation pathways and recruitment trends, protective security awareness, identification of suspicious persons and activities, and the evolving nature of violent extremist threats in Kenya. The sessions also emphasised intelligence gathering, early intervention, and the importance of community engagement in preventing extremist influence.
Facilitators further familiarised the recruits on terrorist financing, highlighting the various mechanisms through which extremist groups sustain their operations, including illicit cross-border trade, money laundering, illegitimate business ventures, extortion of local businesses, and the growing misuse of digital financial platforms.
The recruits were also taken through Kenya's legal and policy framework on Countering Violent Extremism, underscoring the pivotal role of the National Police Service in preventing, detecting, and responding to extremist activities while upholding the rule of law and protecting human rights.
As they prepare to graduate and begin their policing careers, the recruits were reminded that radicalisation can affect individuals from all walks of life. They were encouraged to remain vigilant, uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism, and exercise sound judgment in the discharge of their duties.
The sensitisation programme forms part of the Directorate's broader strategy to build Countering Violent Extremism capacity among newly recruited officers undergoing basic police training across National Police Service training colleges ahead of their graduation.
The DCI remains steadfast in working closely with partner agencies to institutionalise Countering Violent Extremism training within police recruit curricula, reinforcing intelligence-led, community-centred approaches to protecting Kenyans from the threats of terrorism and violent extremism.

What appeared to be an ordinary journey along the Thika-Garissa Highway ended abruptly after a multi-agency security team manning a roadblock at Kanyonyoo intercepted two suspects transporting counterfeit currency with a face value of Ksh6 million.
The suspects, John Safari Mbiti and Erick Njuguna Wambui, were travelling in a black Toyota Vitz, registration number KCY 374M, en route from Thika towards Kithimani when officers flagged down the vehicle for inspection.
A meticulous search of the car uncovered a white carrier bag containing four tightly wrapped bundles concealed beneath layers of khaki paper, aluminium foil and clear tape. But beneath the elaborate packaging lay something far more suspicious.
Upon unwrapping the bundles, officers recovered counterfeit Ksh1,000 notes neatly packed into four bundles, with a combined face value of Ksh6 million.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects were transporting the counterfeit currency to Wamunyu, Kitui County, where it was to be handed over to an accomplice for further processing to make it resemble genuine currency before being circulated.
Their shortcut to easy riches, however, turned into a detour straight to Kanyonyoo Police Station, where they were booked alongside the recovered counterfeit currency. The suspects are currently undergoing processing pending arraignment.
Counterfeit currency poses a serious threat to the economy by undermining public confidence in financial transactions and exposing unsuspecting members of the public to significant losses. The DCI remains steadfast in dismantling criminal networks involved in currency counterfeiting and other forms of economic crime.

Detectives from the Anti-Illegal Mining and Smuggling Investigations (AIMSI) have arraigned three foreign nationals over unauthorised possession of emeralds valued at approximately Sh19,000,000.
On June 30, 2026, Milton Ivan Espana Diaz from the United States, Luis Carlos Garcia Ayala from Colombia, and Manuel De Jesus Arevalo Rodriguez from Mexico were arrested with raw emerald weighing 74 grams.
Preliminary investigations revealed that these individuals lacked proper documentation regarding the origins of the minerals in question, as well as a mineral dealer's or trading license from the State Department for Mining.
Appearing before the Chief Magistrateโs Court in Kibera, the three faced two counts: dealing with minerals without a valid dealer's license and unauthorised possession of precious minerals.
They pleaded not guilty to the charges and were admitted to a bond of Sh500,000 with surety of a similar amount, alternatively to cash bail of Sh200,000 with one contact person. The court further ordered that their Passports be deposited in Court.
This case underscores the DCIโs commitment to combat illegal mining and ensure that those who exploit Kenya's rich mineral resources without the proper legal framework are held accountable.

The training, facilitated by CIVIPOL, brought together participants from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), further strengthening inter-agency collaboration in the fight against human trafficking.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Jillo underscored that trafficking in persons remains a serious threat to human dignity, national security, and global stability, emphasizing the need for stronger partnerships and harmonized operational responses to combat the crime effectively.
โThis vice remains one of the most serious forms of transnational organized crime and a grave violation of human rights. It exploits the most vulnerable members of our society while undermining national security. Addressing this crime demands a coordinated, victim-centred, and multi-agency approach,โ he said.
Mr. Jillo noted that the Standard Operating Procedures have been developed to provide clear operational guidance to officers involved in the prevention, detection, investigation, prosecution, and overall response to trafficking in persons cases.
He observed that the SOPs will promote professionalism, consistency, accountability, and seamless coordination among all agencies mandated to combat the crime.
The Commandant further encouraged the Border Management and Migration (BMM) Programme and CIVIPOL to leverage the well-established mechanisms and extensive global capabilities of INTERPOL, noting that its worldwide network remains a vital asset in disrupting trafficking syndicates and enhancing cross-border cooperation.

Mr. Jillo further expressed appreciation on behalf of the Director DCI, to all stakeholders and development partners whose commitment and collaboration made both the development of the Standard Operating Procedures and the successful organization of the training programme possible.
The opening ceremony brought together representatives from the DCI, CIVIPOL, and other key stakeholders, reaffirming their shared commitment to strengthening Kenyaโs institutional capacity and advancing a coordinated response to human trafficking.
