Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies, along with West Douglas Fire Protection District, South Metro Fire, and Castle Rock Fire crews, are on scene of a grass fire near Sedalia.

Southbound Highway 85 is CLOSED at Highway 67 while firefighters work to contain the fire.

Please use an alternate route to give first responders plenty of space to work safely.

Under the Rig: DCSO Inspects Commercial Trucks

On Thursday, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office teamed up with the Colorado State Patrol Monument Port of Entry Mobile Scales to conduct a Commercial Motor Vehicle checkpoint on Chambers Road, just south of Mainstreet.

The goal of these mobile checkpoints is to ensure large trucks on our roads are operating safely and following the law. Here are the final numbers from the operation:

🔹 32 Full inspections conducted
🔹 50 Total violations found
🔹 7 Drivers placed Out of Service
🔹 5 Vehicles placed Out of Service
🔹 8 Tickets issued
🔹 6 Commercial driver's license (CDL) violations
🔹 4 Seat belt violations
🔹 2 Drug or alcohol violations
🔹 1 License suspension
🔹 1 Proof of service served

BURGLARY ARREST DURING PENLEY FIRE

🚫Not in Douglas County! If you come here to commit crimes, we WILL catch you and we WILL arrest you.

While law enforcement and first responders were focused on the nearby Penley Fire earlier this week, a burglar decided to make himself at home in an unoccupied house currently on the market near Roxborough. The homeowner received several alerts from his security camera system and immediately called 911.

The suspect also allegedly used his car to block a gate and road, preventing law enforcement and neighbor access, and obstructing an evacuation route during the Penley fire.

Thanks to the homeowner’s detailed description and quick thinking, deputies were ready. When the suspect left the residence on an e-bike, deputies caught him leaving the scene. The suspect has been identified as 40-year-old Tony Hoang, a Denver resident, and is facing multiple charges, including burglary.

UPDATE: Penley Fire Now 100% Contained

The Penley Fire is now 100% contained, according to the Douglas County Office of Emergency Management and the West Douglas Fire Protection District.

Officials have lifted all evacuation orders and evacuation warnings.

Fire crews will remain in the area over the coming days, continuing to mop up hotspots and closely monitor the burn area to ensure the fire does not flare up again.

Douglas County OEM Director Mike Alexander and West Douglas Fire Chief John Oravez would like to share their appreciation for the firefighters, volunteers, first responders, law enforcement, partner agencies, and community members for their teamwork and cooperation throughout the incident.

We would like to remind the public to continue using caution around the fire area while crews complete their work.

We need help identifying these Pokémon card thieves.

Last month, two people walked into the Highlands Ranch GameStop, headed straight to the back of the store with reusable grocery bags, and loaded them with Pokémon card packs. They grabbed more than $2,900 worth of cards, walked out without paying, and left in a black crossover‑style vehicle.

We know these aren’t the best photos, but we’re still asking for your help identifying these two people.

Suspect 1: White male, heavyset, wearing a green hoodie, black hat, khaki pants, and black shoes.
Suspect 2: Male, unknown race, wearing a long‑sleeve black graphic tee, red hat, and gray pants.
