Democrats in Maine weren't that concerned about the larger impact nationwide. Otherwise they would have looked around their state house, which has many Democrats, and encouraged and coalesced around a candidate.

Normalize primaries against incumbents and no more "it's their turn" crap, unless you want to choose between someone likely to drop dead in office or chaotic, embarrassing messiness.

Many of our electeds are just as troublesome, but born into or made their way into elite communities that protect them from accountability or exposure.
