WAAW aims to increase awareness of global AMR and to encourage best practices for using antimicrobials responsibly among the public, health workers and policy makers, to avoid the further emergence and spread of drug-resistant infections.

The national WAAW toolkit aims to provide quick and ready-to-use resources to support local World AMR Awareness Week (WAAW) campaigns. The toolkit is focused on digital messaging to support speed and ease of communication, while including a wide variety of suggestions for engagement with healthcare professionals, patients and members of the public.

The report offers vital insights into the scale of the problem we face as the UK urgently tackles antibiotic resistance through the challenging goals and targets set out in the UK National Action Plan 2024-29. Antibiotic-resistant bacteria of any kind are less likely to respond to treatment, causing serious complications, including bacteraemia, sepsis, and hospitalisation. People who get a bacterial infection that is resistant to one or more antibiotics are more likely to die within 30
days compared to those who have an antibiotic-susceptible infection.
Antibiotic resistance occurs naturally but there are ways that it can be tackled, including by limiting antibiotic use to where it’s most needed.
Give yourself the best protection with a flu vaccine, it’s just like protective armour for those with long-term health conditions like #Diabetes. 🛡️ 💉
Stay strong. Get vaccinated.
