Since its end of the RLCS season, I thought I’d outline some things I’d personally like to see in 2025 & beyond (its a lot)👇
- 2/3 rule for SSA & possibly other regions. Having unlimited imports takes away opportunities from said regions.
- Expanded competitive calendar. 2 splits with nothing to fill the gaps is not appealing to orgs or players, despite the addition of LCQ. It's good having an increased prizepool, but if players are only playing for 6 months of the year, it doesn't mean much. There has to be something to fill the gaps especially for players/orgs not making those LANs. Back in the day Dreamhack filled that gap, now we don't have that.
- Actually promote tournaments outside of RLCS. Put links in game, showcase them on the main RL twitch channel when it’s not being used for RLCS. Epic/Psyonix are partnering with others to put on events, or creating events themselves, and then not fully promoting them. It’s a waste of resources if they aren't fully backed as it means these events never reach anywhere near their viewership potential. This change is low effort and would create a large return.
- Rule changes to age, with it being raised to 18 with a grandfather clause for all younger players currently involved in RLCS. We’ve been over this before, rocket league isn’t Fortnite and kids don’t belong in esports, period.
- Potential changes in sponsorship & merch rules, and less restrictions to enable more funding for the esport & orgs involved. Ofc not betting or crypto sponsors. But things like energy drinks should definitely be considered as they are on team jerseys anyway, and the front & centre of every esport/sport. That alongside letting orgs sell their merch at majors & worlds which they have wanted for years.
- Esport item(s) that contribute towards the prizepool. I’d actually buy items if I knew a big portion of the money was going towards the players and orgs involved in the scene. Again, it creates more sustainability for very little effort. Currently few people buy items and nobody knows where the money goes.
- The prizepool should be capped at top 64 for major regions and top 32 for minor regions. Top 128 is (imo) just wasted money that could be put elsewhere. This balance still means bubble players in day 3 can still receive prizepool money & incentive to keep grinding.
- Esports tab in game with schedules etc, similar to what Valorant has. We should really have one by now. As it stands, without liquipedia we'd all be very lost.
