Our new Substack article is out now, responding to the deeply problematic piece in The Atlantic by Elaina Plott Calabro. We take a closer look at the inaccuracies, distortions, and the real story behind MAiD in Canada.

CAMAP's Dr. Stefanie Green, a MAID assessor and provider and author of, “This Is Assisted Dying,” viewed a misleading video alongside @DWDCanada and offers a great deal of clarification and debunking of the misleading information presented in the video.

Latest from @Samhja and me, explaining why many concerns raised about #MAID apply just as much (or more) to common palliative care practices.

Congratulations to @SeanFraserMP and Marjorie Michel on their appointments as Canada's Minister of Justice and Minister of Health, respectively. We look forward to the opportunity to work together on ensuring equitable end-of-life rights for people across Canada. #cdnpoli 🍁
🧵We look forward to the opportunity to educate and engage MPs across all parties on the importance of end-of-life rights. Compassion and choice ensure everyone can choose their good death.
🧵As Canada’s only national human-rights charity committed to protecting end-of-life rights, Dying With Dignity Canada anticipates the opportunity to engage the new government ministers, when appointed, on ensuring equitable end-of-life rights for people across the country.
🧵The results of Canada’s 2025 #FederalElection are in, and the @liberal_party has secured a minority government. Congratulations to @MarkJCarney, the Liberal Party of #Canada, and all elected Members of Parliament across the political spectrum. #cdnpoli#Elxn45 🍁
1/A🧵to address some of the errors in this report. Bill C7 was a response to Truchon, a case brought by 2 PWDs that affirmed the Carter decision, essentially that prognosis does not determine eligibility for #MAID. It was not an action of government, it was a *reaction*.
Looking forward to speaking about #MAID and marginalization with @DocSandyB next week. Lots of recent data to go over, and some practical experience as well.

On January 28, join us for a Regional Spotlight on Death and Dying in British Columbia. We'll be joined by MAID clinicians Dr. Don Versluis and Dr. Adam Sandell to learn about navigating MAID and other end-of-life options in BC’s health care system. https://t.co/a8490d9QaP
Having autonomy over end-of-life health care can provide a profound sense of dignity. @GovCanHealth is currently seeking feedback on advance requests for MAiD. As a community deeply impacted by these issues, we invite you to complete the survey by Feb 14: https://t.co/3z8QIisZdP
1/ Canada's 5th #MAID report came out last week. More information (82 pages!), less fanfare, likely due to people being better at interpreting observational data.
Here's a 🧵 with some key findings

If you are one of the 82% of people across Canada who support this change to the law, now is the time to make your voice heard by completing the public survey and sharing it with your family, friends, and networks. https://t.co/o797RLuHJW
The federal consultation on advance requests for medical assistance in dying (MAID) has begun! An online public survey was released this afternoon to gather national feedback on the issue of advance requests, and the deadline is February 14, 2025. https://t.co/o797RLvfzu
For ppl who are diagnosed with conditions that lead to diminished capacity, the lack of legal advance requests is a huge barrier. We are optimistic that this national consultation will lead to swift federal legislation – following the leadership and blueprint developed by Quebec.
