Always great talking w/ @WCVB! Many patients struggle with night glare, especially in the age of high power LED headlights. Best approach:
-follow road line/avoid direct high beam gaze
-anti-glare glasses coating
-treat dry eye
-assess for cataracts (if symptoms are worsening)
In a sea of AI-in-medicine junk pieces which either a) grossly overstate AI’s current doctor-replacing capabilities or b) dismiss the real seismic change potential generative AI may hold for medicine’s future, @Bob_Wachter delivers clear eyed and well-balanced food for thought.
My latest Substack:
Why predictions that radiologists will be replaced by AI (including, famously, by genAI founding father and Nobel laureate Geoffrey Hinton) have been wildly off base, and what that teaches us about job replacement for doctors.

The problem in academia is that an entirely new model usually emerges in the time it takes to receive and respond to Reviewer 2’s nitty gritty comments.
i am begging academics to study AI capabilities using frontier models.
the models used in this study (which is going to be cited for years as proof that "AI is bad at health advice") are GPT-4o, Llama 3, and Command R+, two obsolete models and one i've never heard of.
@MIWband@maxmoorefilms Love that @ChrisMotionless withheld the Blegh juuuust long enough to make you think you weren’t going to get it, then dropped it just as hope was lost. Very cheeky!
Spare a thought for those of us who have enjoyed using em dashes in our writing for many years — and now have to think twice about it for fear of being assumed to have used ChatGPT
We should value a few high quality first author publications, reflective of in-depth project management and execution, and showcasing true ownership and subject mastery. Time is better spent pursing these than finding a 25th 3rd author contribution to a random poster.
This is bad. It’s not feasible to publish 30+ high quality manuscripts as a med student. The obsession with quantity prioritizes quick easy pubs, and actively discourages substantive research. It teaches to pick projects based on speed and not actual impact, and discourages risk.
The worst conditions you can imagine are a mutation and/or a plane flight away. The CDC is a critical part of the shield that lets you live a more pathogen-free life than any other humans have enjoyed in history. I shudder to think of life without it functioning at its best.
1) HHS says CDC Director Monarez is out
2) Several top CDC deputies resign in protest
3) Lawyers for Monarez say she has NOT resigned
Every time I was about to hit update, some new wild piece of info rolled in...

You don’t notice public health—until it fails.
The reason you don’t worry about smallpox? Or cholera in your tap water? It’s because decades of public health work made those dangers disappear.
But here’s the thing: diseases don’t just go away forever. They come back if we stop doing the work until it fails.
Seeing how much public health has done matters. But seeing isn’t enough.
Knowing a crisis is preventable isn’t the same as preventing it.
It’s like knowing there’s gold in a mountain—but never digging.
If we want to keep our families safe and our communities strong, we have to protect what’s protecting us.

Congratulations @JonnyKimUSA!
I was a rotating med student in the MGH ED shortly after his selection as an astronaut candidate. Jonny still took the time to patiently teach me how to sew my first brow laceration. Friendly and generous. A highlight of training.
Ad Astra, Jonny!
Welcome to the station, @JonnyKimUSA!
Kim will now begin an eight-month @ISS_Research mission aboard the @Space_Station. Follow our station blog for daily mission updates: https://t.co/FRrjhINIvY
The med student praying and fighting with the scrubEx machine to get a replacement for soiled scrubs just might be the most realistic thing in the history of medical tv shows. 10/10, #ThePittMax
A tech-aligned, cost cutting administration with a strong rural constituency might want to take another look at authorizing tech-enabled cost-effective health services that particularly benefit rural residents.
Congress never reauthorized telehealth flexibilities beyond March 31
Trump helped tank the end-of-year bipartisan bill that would have done this, so absolutely nobody has to hand it to him, but it'd now be unlawful for him to unilaterally extend expiring telehealth flexibilities
Thank you @WCBV for the chance to discuss advances in interventional glaucoma, our growing arsenal of medical, laser, and surgical treatments, and the importance of awareness and early detection to save sight.
An exciting time to work in this rapidly evolving, innovative field!
