Hello all! Welcome to Daily Deep Dive, where I'll be posting daily explorations of interesting phenomenon and concepts from around the world. For our inaugural dive, we're going DEEP deep. 10,984 meters down, in fact, to the deepest point on Earth, the Mariana Trench π§΅
Despite the tremendous pressure (up to 1000 times that of the ocean at sea level) many species make their home in the trench. Among them are the "living fossil" frilled shark, which is over 80 million years old. The dominant species on the floor of the trench is the sea cucumber.
