🎞️Red Scale Film

Rollei Redbird film is a personal favorite of mine because it creates warm reds, and orange tones with perfect sharpness.

Red scale film is a type of photographic film that is specially prepared to produce a distinct red and orange color shift when exposed. It is typically created by reversing the film's emulsion layer so that it is exposed from the wrong side. This reversal causes the film to capture light primarily through the base layer, resulting in a shift in the color spectrum.

It is often used in experimental and creative photography to achieve unique and artistic effects. It produces images with a vintage or retro look, with strong red and orange tones dominating the color palette. Blues and greens tend to be shifted towards dark or black, creating a dramatic contrast.

Some photographers prefer to create their own red scale film by manually reversing the emulsion layer of regular color negative or color slide film. This process involves removing the film from its cartridge, flipping it, and reloading it in complete darkness. It requires careful handling and can be challenging for beginners or those without access to a darkroom or a light-tight changing bag.
