@mvbenter @VancouverSun Yes, fully agree that the recent acquisitions likely drove this decision.. but similar to Bell and 1040 they bought the asset relatively recently (2017 I believe?), did a poor job of managing it, and then shuttered. Could have done this differently but chose not to. Shameful.

@mvbenter @VancouverSun Yes, there are typically lower or negative value assets in most acquisitions. But this does not mean they have to shut the doors. They did because a) they were not as profitable and b) because it provides more control of the market (less competition).Not great for local markets.

@mvbenter @VancouverSun The point being missed is that once again the oligopolistic nature of Canada resulted in this. Rogers did not have to buy these stations. They bought, consolidated, and killed local radio stations across the country.

@TheStanchion Fully agree, Sports Page also gave back/engaged meaningfully with the local community. I still remember @DonTaylor5 and crew visiting our high school (STM) to talk broadcasting, sports, and more. It inspired us. Halford was in that class.

We need more grassroots. Not Rogers.
