Our model magic creations are complete. Like our country has monuments and symbols to represent it's story, we do too! Our "Footsteps to Freedom" community read is coming to a close #America250
Our breakout answers come from our databases BUT students insisted on going to google. How many times have I redirected groups? Too many. Natural consequences - their answers don't work. Grrrr
I saw these beautiful book creations done by former students when I visited the middle school for a meeting. These are very insightful young men & women, given tools to express themselves. It makes my heart so very happy! ❤️
We have two of these Little Free Libraries outside of our Early Childhood building. They are often empty. Great problem to have! I've been doing some cleaning and relocating books to these to get them in the homes of our families.
We are creating landmarks or symbols to tell our stories with Model Magic. 4th & 5th graders are thinking about the stories we hear and the stories we don't as we celebrate our country's 250th birthday.
Ks are brainstorming gifts to give our country on it's 250th birthday celebration. Love, money, a diamond ring and a Nintendo Switch were highlights of today's work. We read The Gift Inside the Box to launch our thinking.
Ks were discussing "well worn" and how someone older may have wrinkles. "LIKE YOU, Mrs. Garland!" Check. Love having my wrinkles compared to Abe's. 🤣 I still *feel* like I'm 27 but clearly I am "well worn."
We are thinking about our media choices - what is the purpose? What is a healthy choice? What is a not-so-healthy choice? This partners well with the Common Sense Media video: https://t.co/qDJcy6sFqG
Our youngest learners are participating in our community read and celebrating 250 years of our country. We took a close look at our flag, read two books, and made choices that included designing our own flag.
Digital Citizenship: This year I am taking some of my previous work about stereotypes and combining it with Common Sense Media's curriculum for 5th grade. Check out their 3 questions and goal for this work.

Amanda Galliton talks about advocacy as "everyday stuff" in her Knowledge Quest post. We need to go beyond knowing our worth and communicating it. How are you communicating your worth? https://t.co/jaiVwkzaCp
In celebration of School Library Month I asked students what they like about our library. With so many things that we do and are throughout the year, I reminded them that there must be something, somewhere in their memory that they have enjoyed.
I bought "book boats" with grant money, large enough to fit a 5th grader (I tested these for size). Apparently, these can fit TWO 2nd graders. Who knew!?!? Thanks Laura d'Elia for the inspiration!
It's "Blind Date with a Book" for staff appreciation! Our generous PTO spent hours collecting books and creating clues for this experience. This was a work of heart. I am feeling very loved (and very ready for break).
Here is what happens when you open up Wordle & Connection options for choice time - groups assemble and work together to problem solve! Our Wordles & Connections are student-made with https://t.co/w7x4vCZXCm
Students can also submit their own on a google form.
