If Mel Gibson were to direct The Aeneid he would show Hollywood how its done - no apologies for the culture of the times and in their original language.

What the cinema snobs are missing about the Odyssey hullabaloo isn't that Nolan's Odyssey is a bad movie, after all, it benefits from a cast of Hollywood prima donnas, a massive budget, Nolan as its director, and it's The Odyssey dammit.

The argument is, incorporating wokeness has made it a lesser movie.

It could have been an all-time great given the all-time great source material, but Nolan frittered it away with anochronic race-swapping of established historical figures, committed egregious miscasting, and profaned the source material with modern language that dumbs it down doing a disservice to the cinematic experience.

The Odyssey is not any source material, it is World Heritage stuff. Of course people are going to have an opinion on it and wish to see it at its most historically accurate and well produced so that it is a cinematic jewel it deserves to be and future generations are motivated to read it.
