The argument that the Employment Rights Act took 7 weeks through committee in Westminster is technically true but invalid.

The Act took nearly 63 weeks to work its way through Parliament and was subject to over 1,000 amendments - we have 50 weeks until the next election.

👥Trade unions have held a protest at Stormont today, calling for the introduction of the Good Jobs Bill.

🎥Chief Reporter @jamesgould23 has been speaking to Economy Minister Dr @CArchibald_SF, @CarmelGates from @nipsa and @alanp1771 from @GMB_union.

The Economy Minister says she has received “no indication” that any other party will attempt to block her Good Jobs Bill.

Dr Archibald first set out the proposals in April 2025, describing the Bill as the “biggest upgrade to our employment legislation since the Good Friday Agreement”.

The proposed legislation includes measures relating to zero-hours contracts, improved family-related leave, and strengthened trade union rights.

However, more than a year later, the Bill has still not been published or debated by MLAs.

It is due to be considered by ministers in the powersharing Executive later this month before it can be given the green light to go to the Assembly.

Some DUP politicians have already raised concerns about the Bill, while business groups have called for it to be paused, arguing there is not enough time for it to be properly scrutinised before the end of the current Assembly mandate in March next year.

With thanks to the post and Tourist board page for Tristan da Cunha. Tristan da Cunha witnessed a historic operation as UK military personnel, medical clinicians, oxygen, and emergency medical supplies were parachuted onto the island following a medical emergency and critically low oxygen supplies.
The mission was carried out by the Royal Air Force and British Army, with an A400M aircraft flying more than 10,000 km to reach Tristan. The operation included specialist paratroopers, military medical staff, oxygen supplies, and emergency medical equipment to support the island’s healthcare team and community.
This marks the first time in Tristan da Cunha’s history that military personnel and medical supplies have been delivered to the island by parachute, and one of the most unique emergency support operations ever carried out to one of the world’s most remote communities.

Pathfinders and airborne medics have jumped into Tristan da Cunha, the remotest inhabited island in the world, to treat a Briton with Hantavirus.

The British territory has no airstrip. The closest Royal Navy ship was days away and oxygen supplies were critically low.

Yesterday, a UK Government Army specialist team parachuted onto Tristan da Cunha — one of the most remote islands in the world — to deliver critical medical support after it was confirmed that a person on the island was suspected of contracting hantavirus.
