This little "hobit" village is actually a group of individual undegrownd silos. Each farmer owned one and used it to store potatoes. People have used them since the Middle Ages until today.
Our first day in Slovakia. Our first task was to collect the bugs out of the buried traps. It took us almost an hour to find the first trap spot. The swarms of mosquitoes were driving us crazy. I got so many bites that day that I looked like after full body injection of botulinum
We have found this frog in our trap at least five times in a row and each time, after completing the involuntary "catapulting", it has returned to feast on Ips duplicatus. This frog must be pretty smart if it can find one metal pipe in the meadow and climb back into the trap.
A sampling of dead trees due to the bark beetles, at different years after dying out, for fungal and insect diversity, and mechanical properties. #NAZVSouse
