Honored to be a judge for the inaugural Nach Waxman Prize from @kalnyc, along with @senatormayukh and Morna Livingston. Nach's delight & keen insights into cookbooks and food scholarship contributed greatly to my education. #foodhistory#foodstudies

@ninarenataaron @DearSplenda Yes, borscht is the common spelling in the US, transliterated from Yiddish and easier for English speakers than the final Cyrillic letter Щ, which is phonetically rendered as 'shch.' You sometimes see 'borsch' too but I think that's the worst.
The Kingdom of Rye: A Brief History of Russian Food is an engaging story of Russian cuisine, history and culture. Darra Goldstein details Russians' ingenuity in overcoming hunger, a difficult climate, and a history of political hardship @darra_goldstein
More lovely news, this time from the UK. The Kingdom of Rye has been longlisted for the Andre Simon Awards, which recognize excellence in food and drink writing. My book is in wonderful company here!
We’re thrilled to announce the 2022 André Simon Longlist! Congratulations to all the longlisted authors and publishers. The longlist was whittled down from 140 entries and it certainly wasn’t easy, thank you to everyone who entered this year. Find out more via our website.
What an honor to receive the Sakhelebi Prize for my work on Georgian culture and cuisine! The awards ceremony was held @librarycongress, sponsored by Sakhe(l)ebi Publishing House, a licensee of @nytimes, and @GeorgianEmbassy.
