It was great to meet with Exolum and 7CO2 to hear about their plans for a UK-leading carbon capture, utilisation and storage terminal at Avonmouth Docks.

This project could unlock up to £200 million of investment, bringing a mothballed industrial site back into use, creating new jobs for local people and helping drive the transition to a cleaner economy.

Good news that VAT will be cut on electricity bills. It’s a simple way for families to save a few quid, and to mechanically help to keep inflation that little bit lower.

But the DigitalID program was unfunded.

The government will have to set out how it will pay for its new policies at the budget.

Today’s energy tax cut will give families some breathing room on bills, and provide some reassurance this winter.

This will be funded from the cancelled Digital ID scheme this year, helping to bring down inflation while supporting households in every postcode.

From the campaign trail and the TV studios to the Treasury, No10 and the Cabinet Office - it’s been a privilege to be in the cabinet of a Labour government and to serve the country.

Andy Burnham has called to tell me I won’t be a part of his new cabinet. I wish him and his team every success.

I was proud to lead two Spending Reviews that increased investment in our schools and hospitals, tackled child poverty and built council houses again, alongside the 10 year Infrastructure Strategy.

And I was proud to play my part in coordinating national security and defence policy helping to rebuild our reputation on the world stage.

I was brought into Downing Street and the Cabinet Office to improve Government delivery and I’m pleased that today many of the big metrics are moving in the right direction:

👨‍⚕️NHS waiting lists down

📉Immigration back to more manageable levels

💷 Wages consistently rising faster than prices, and

📈Better economic growth figures than other big economies (although I’d love to see us doing more on that).

The Green Party is charging groups to use our green spaces.

The Downs has been protected for "free and uninterrupted use" since 1861.

It's right that large commercial events contribute towards maintaining the Downs, but charging small groups to run, exercise or sing together is absurd.

Our Labour government, irrespective of who is in what role, has the mission of spreading wealth, power and opportunity to the many.

EXCL: Keir Starmer has become first UK PM to be presented with Légion d’honneur by French president, in recognition of his work on security of Europe.

Emmanuel Macron awarded the historic honour to Starmer for his l'ship in setting up coalition of the willing at a critical moment for the continent in early 2025.

Only other British PM to receive a similar award – at a higher level, the Grand-Croix of the Légion d’honneur – was Winston Churchill in 1958 in recognition of his leadership during the second world war.
