Notice they don't have breathing apparatus, no shield, no gloves, wearing a canvas coat, wool pants and leather boots during a fire attack; the roots of job-related cancer
This 1956 photo shows Vancouver fire fighters standing their ground against a massive blaze — a reminder that our strength, solidarity, and commitment run deep.

My honour to share with you the updated history of Fire Fighter Unions in British Columbia to February 2025.The history can be read, and downloaded from the BCPFFA website at: https://t.co/1ipoHLVm99 You are encouraged to read and share it
Sincere thanks to BCPFFA for allowing me to meet with delegates at the Educational Conference in Victoria dealing with critical fire service issues. I was impressed by the wisdom and energy of the IAFF local members and their care & passion for the fire service and the public.
Thanks once again to the VFRS Honour Guard for your participation at today's memorial service for retired Fire Chief Don Pamplin. As always, you bring so much dignity and respect to honour one of ours; the extended family were deeply touched by your presence and very grateful.
Excited to share, development of our Regional Fire Training Centre represents a major leap forward for our firefighting capabilities. Our partnership with the @TheCityofTrail was crucial for securing the land & grant funding necessary for this facility @RDKBdotcom@trailfire941
It was my privilege to work first of all with Kirk's dad Al Heaven at Vancouver Fire Rescue, then later with Kirk at Vancouver and then Port Moody. A class guy always with a great sense of humor, happy retirement brother.
On Friday we celebrated the long career of Deputy Chief Heaven, who has retired from PMFR after his long career in the Fire Service
May 89 - April 18 at Vancouver Fire & Rescue Services and
April 18 - July 24 with Port Moody Fire Rescue
Congrats Chief!

I attended the funeral in Clearwater for Chad Schapansky and am still profoundly moved by what was such a needless death. Investigation confirmed a lack of training for an interior attack. Happily, the result some years later was the OFC training requirements in 2014. RIP Chad

B shift responded to a structure fire early this morning on Cranbrook St N. Fire was showing from the roof on arrival. 10 firefighters and 3 apparatus were able to extinguish the fire, limiting damage. The owner and their insurer are working hard to keep them open for business
Thank you @markhollandlib and @SherryRomanado for supporting fire fighters and the critical work of cancers within our profession. Speaking this morning in Ottawa to key stakeholders and industry with @IAFFCanada

Vic Mowat was a VFRS friend and colleague who was taken much too early by a cancer caused by his profession as a firefighter. This was a claim Local 18 fought and with extensive support by the IAFF, was the first one accepted by WCB, in Jan 1993.
